Store off-season clothing in a bedroom closet, under the bed or in the basement.
Relocate sporting equipment to the garage.
Limit shoes – relegate extra pairs to bedroom closets.
Hang a shelf and place an attractive container for incoming mail on top.
Hang small hooks for keys inside the closet.
Outfit the closet with cubbies for each family member's bag or briefcase.
Line up a row of identical attractive baskets (labelled; one for each family member).
Use a multipurpose hanging shoe rack for shoes, small umbrellas, purses, mitts, hats, even mail.
Add a dresser or console table – use drawer organizers to neatly stash keys, purses, mail, cellphones and more.

We're living in a sea of stuff and it's time to simplify, organize, lighten-up and downsize! Garages fall into a clutter collector categoy I call -- the "ABGs" -- Attics, Basements and Garages! Try creating a storage system - shelves, boxes, cubbies - and allocate ONE area for each family member. That would be ONE shelf, box or cubby! Then, the rule is simple. You can store whatever you want in the garage as long as it fits in your allocated space. When you have too much stuff for your space, it's time to EDIT, not ADD more storage!
My bedroom, I disrobe and often don't take the time to properly hang my clothes.
what an odd suggestion for this site...if everyone agreed with you, Style at Home would go out of business.... My magazines are far from useless after I have read them...I have years worth of magazine subscriptions that I wouldn't part with..I have often referred back to older magazines, and would hardly call them "clutter" as they have a place on a bookshelf just like any other literature.
why not drop your magazines off at your hairdressers so they can get rid of outdated ones and also i take mine to the library
Our trouble spot seems to be the garage, Everything that gets removed from the house, always seems to find its way to the garage. The piles in there are getting out of hand. Does anyone have any suggestions, other than a garage sale.
My problem area is the kitchen table as well. The mail always seems to hit there first, and we have trouble finding homes for everything.
99 Low Cost Organizing Tips
Hi there, We've got a great story called 99 Low Cost Organizing Ideas, which you might find helpful. You can check it out here: http://www.styleathome.com/organizing/organizing-ideas/99-low-cost-organizing-tips/a/1806
Take your magazines to charity shop. Others can benefit from your previous purchase, which is useless to you now. Be brave - get rid of it as much more magazine pleasure is awaiting you! Calculate how much money you spent on magazine in one year. Instead of buying them, start stashing money into special "secret" envelope to treat yourself, eventually, to something more substantial (but just for yourself!!). Get free membership in your local public library. There you will have so many magazines available you didn't even dream of. Have a great time either reading current issues in the library in comfy chair or take previous issues home. CAUTION: Only keep them in special place (or canvas bag, or night table etc.) so they don't "get lost". By then, you wouldn't have any magazine clutter in your house and will be up to date on all magazines you want (and have secret money stash to treat yourself later). I enjoy reading magazines too, but never buy them anymore as there is no way I can have so many as I can have from the library.
MY CLUTTER HOTSPOT IS THE KITCHEN TABLE--DOWN-SIZING HASN'T HELPED AS THE PILES JUST SEEM TO GROW TALLER NOW. MAGAZINES SEEM TO BE THE MAIN CULPRIT
