I don’t know about you, but cleaning the bathroom is my least favourite chore. It’s a job I need to constantly stay on top of and no matter how diligent I am, it always seems to need work. (The biggest drag is my dark hair on my white tile floors. Ew.) My best tip for keeping my bathroom clean is to wipe the shower down after every use. I keep a squeegee on the ledge in my shower and remove all the excess water after every shower, then do a quick wipe with a towel. This not only keeps the shower looking good until cleaning day, it’s a small investment of my time that will keep the grout in the shower clean in the long run. I’ve got small subway tiles in my shower so there’s lots of grout that cannot be ignored. Wiping the shower down daily prevents the grout from becoming grimy.

We asked our Facebook readers for their best tips for keeping the bathroom clean. “Please people, do share! I hate to clean the bathroom,” says Kellie. So – here’s what our readers had to say:

“Lately, I’ve been doing it while my four year old is in the tub playing. I have to stay in the room anyway, so I might as well get ‘er done! And at the end of the day, I give the sink a quick wipe down with the hand towel before I toss it in the laundry. (That tip stolen from M. Stewart!)” – Kim

“I use disinfectant wipes for quick clean-ups, then when I do a big overhaul, it’s not that dirty. I find that using the vacuum to suck up hair in the bathtub or shower cuts down on time. I also use Norwex cleaning cloths, which don’t require cleaning products (the cloths are anti-microbial) and do a great job! I also use OxiClean to clean the toilet – works beautifully!” - Rhonda

“I keep cleaning supplies in all bathrooms and a roll of paper towel and rags. THIS HAS CHANGED OUR LIVES (OK, not our lives but has been life-changing!) Every morning, I do a quick wipe and swipe sink, mirror and toilet. Amazing how easy it was to get in that habit. Having cleaning supplies in the main floor bath made it easy too, when company comes over unexpectedly!” – Wendy

“This is going to sound sick but I love to clean my bathroom!! Nothing special … Method brand cleaners and it glistens … till the hubs comes home!” – Petra

“I would love advice on how to clean the tile floor in my bathrooms and not leave streaks. I have smooth white tiles (with a light grey marble vein) and anythng I use leaves streaks, which means extra work to get rid of them. I have tried a Bee sponge mop with various liquid cleaners in the water; I have used the Swiffer WetJet and most recently the ProMist, following their directions. Streaks all the time! Help! The one item that gave the best results is not available in Canada any longer: The Mr. Clean Magic Reach system. The manufacturer told me the Magic Reach pads would be back on the Canadian market this year but they are not. My knees don’t allow me to get down and clean the floor that way so I need a reliable and effective ‘stand up’ method using some sort of mop.” – Barbara

“My wife and I look at the bathroom for a while, alternating that with looks at each other. Then we simultaneously decide to have a Martini instead. It happens more often then you’d imagine. I think we’re a bit on the irresponsible side.” – Kennedy

“Hot water and meths are great for cleaning bathroom tiles and it comes out streak free. Oh, and yes, just a splash of meths in a couple of litres works great.” – Bernice

“I keep cleaning supplies in each bathroom – Lysol wipes for quick clean ups; Vim Power Cream for actual clean up; cleaning the tub after the girls’ bath is quick and easy; do the toilet while they bathe. I also give a quick wipe on the mirror, counter and sink with a hand towel before tossing it in the laundry. I love, love, love my H20 mop for the floors! I have smooth tile in one bathroom and it works like a charm! The master bath has glass doors and a two-person shower, no tub, and I spray before I get in, then while I’m in there, I clean the shower, then me! With different product of course! Loose hair and fuzzies wig me out, but I use a wet paper towel to scoop those up and toss them.” – Dalena-May

“I keep Lysol wipes in each bathroom. And if it’s time to do the major cleaning and I’m feeling lazy, I plug the headphone or earplugs into my phone and call my best friend as we catch up with each other and talk for one or two hours. I have cleaned all my bathrooms and other areas of my house without noticing the time!” – Josephine

“I spray the tubs/showers and surrounds with RainX once a week … helps soap scum bead up, making clean up easier.” – Beth
