Enter: the macaron.
There’s an impressive effort put into the food in France. It was said at dinner tonight, “You don’t have to go to a Michelin star restaurant to eat amazing food.” It’s certainly true as we’ve been dining at some rustic, local spots, all boasting mouth-watering menus. And each dish not only satisfies your taste buds, but your eyes, too.
In Avignon we had a real taste of what it was to be an insider. After a lovely lunch at Les Jardins du Quai (above – definitely a hidden gem tucked away in Avignon), we were treated to a personal demonstration on how to make macarons by the Ladurée-trained chef Daniel Hebet.
Everything, sweet or savoury, is presented beautifully here. Whether that’s with gold leaf flakes, glossy chocolate sauce, or vibrant colours (as you can see here). And if you’ve ever shopped for macarons, just the bright pinks, purples, and greens are enough to make your sweet tooth scream for satisfaction.
This French treat may look simple to make, but is apparently a sensitive recipe. Really though, it’s certainly worth mastering!
