editor’s pick: jewellery branch

I recently visited a friend to check out her new condo and fell in love with her jewellery storage solution. A simple silver aluminum branch that’s mounted on the wall is both functional and decorative. And when you can store and display your favourite pieces in one fell swoop, it’s a win-win in my books.

contest: win a nespresso limited edition colombian terroirs prize pack

Spring 2014 is certainly bringing us showers (in Toronto, ON, at least), but did you know it also brings a delightful caffeinated surprise?

This season, Nespresso released two limited edition Colombian coffees. Featuring two very different blends from two opposite regions, the Colombian Terriors offers consumers a taste of the country’s Arabica variety. Cauca, from the southwest region, is described as fruity with winey aromas, complex and aromatic. While the Santander, from the northeast region, is more rounded and balanced, with notes of toasted bread and sweet caramel.

To accompany this launch, Swiss graphic designer Werner Jeker illustrated two limited edition espresso cups to represent the two terroirs. The cups even come in a gift box that transforms into a capsule dispenser for the Nespresso U machine. I love a multi-functional twist!

And, to make things even better, we’re giving it all away to one lucky winner! Read on to find out how you can win.

throwback thursday: which may cover is your favourite?

Our May 2014 issue hit newsstands this week, featuring living, dining and decorating ideas that work indoors and out. The cover embraces the best of the season with a casual outdoor oasis, offering you a seat in the inviting grey resin wicker furniture. The light grey palette actually makes the greenery look even more fresh and lush, don’t you think?

To celebrate our latest issue and finally being able to enjoy the outdoors as much as the indoors (well, soon hopefully), we’re looking back at our past May covers. Which one is YOUR favourite?

editor’s pick: smells like canada candles

While we all bid winter a warm adieu (if you get my drift), there’s one cold weather essential that I keep in my home year round – candles.

During the biting cold, there’s certainly nothing more cozy than a roaring fire. And on those short days, when night falls fast and steady, there’s a calm comfort in the glow of candlelight dancing around my apartment. No matter what the weather may be, it’s this sense of peace that keeps candles burning in my home constantly.

With the warmer months just around the corner, I’m excited for beaches, hikes and campfires, which is probably why Smells Like Canada caught my eye.

yay or nay: small space single bookshelf

Being a bachelorette apartment dweller, I’m always looking for smart small space storage solutions. Using whatever vertical space available is always recommended but sometimes renters, like myself, are not able to drill large holes for shelves and wall-mounted units.

Could the solution be this simple, single bookshelf?

3 unique jewellery storage ideas

The One of a Kind Show brings hundreds of talented craftsmen and artisans under one roof for an extensive display of handmade gifts. While it’s difficult to walk out with nothing, the creativity of these people is inspiring, and that is something you can’t put a price tag on.

As I perused everything from textiles to furniture to jewellery, I found myself drawn towards the presentation more than the product. That isn’t to say the product wasn’t beautiful but, in this case, the display itself was a beautiful contrast of rustic and dainty, a combination which I happen to admire.

one of a kind spring show: 7 textile designers to love

No matter what I plan on looking for at the One of a Kind Shows, I inevitably find myself stopping at every textile booth on the floor. From tea towels to bedding to bags, there is a print that will catch your eye.

What I’m finding more and more at each show is the diversity in products, using these designs on everything from paper to clothing to accessories and materials, such as wood. I’m always inspired by showcasing items in unique ways. Even something as simple as framing a beautiful scarf can create interest. So, with that in mind, here are seven talented textile designers to keep an out for at the show this week.

new art obsession: whiteout workshop at the one of a kind spring show

The One of a Kind Spring Show opened its doors to Toronto artisan lovers today and, as always, it was an overwhelming (and expansive!) display of art, fashion, stationery, housewares, specialty foods, furniture and more. It’s a dangerous place when there are specific items you’re looking to find. And even more dangerous when you don’t!

In my case, I’m always on the lookout for new art on a budget to fill my embarrassingly barren apartment walls. Cue: Whiteout Workshop.
