must visit: love the design

As I was flipping through the September issue of Style at Home, I came across a cute little stool that caught my eye on page 38.

I opened my laptop to follow the link and it led me to Love The Design.

This is my kind of store! I had one of those “How did I know about this?” moments before falling down the rabbit hole and getting lost in their photo gallery.

fab.com now ships to canada!

Have you signed up for Fab.com yet? I’ve been shopping there since they opened their virtual doors a little over a year ago.

It’s a flash sale site, similar to the Canadian site, HomeSav. Fab features a lot of unique home goods from indie designers and vintage sellers.

It’s one of my top online destinations for discovering new brands and shopping for my home (at a hefty discount).

The best part… They now ship to Canada! Yay!

I’m lucky enough to have a friend who lives in the Boston area, so I’ve been shopping & shipping my goodies to her all along, but this certainly saves a lot of hassle on her end and mine!

porch makeover: part one

My guy and I moved into our house about 18 months ago. Since the moment we took possession, we knew that the front porch was in dire need of attention. Well, we’ve finally found some time to give it a much-needed makeover.

We’re currently at the mid-way point of the project, with the demo and re-build done, and I’m working on the fun part (the decorating) right now.

Let me begin by showing you what we started with. Here’s the before…

trend: neon signage

Until recently, neon signage was associated with tacky, beer-themed, man caves and sports bars. But, now it’s popping up in sophisticated residential environments everywhere.

We saw it at IDS12 (pictured below). Plus, it’s all over Pinterest.

christie antique show 2012

This past Saturday was the perfect day for the Christie Antique Show. The sun was shining, the ground was dry and the park was packed with treasure hunters.

This is always one of my favourite shows of the season. While you should expect higher price points at Christie, compared to other shows, the vendors showcase their best merchandise ensuring that you take home quality pieces, worth every penny.

Here are some of the pieces that caught my eye…

aberfoyle spring special antique show 2012

This past weekend, I attended the Aberfoyle Spring Special Antique Show. This show always marks the kick off of antique season, here in Ontario. The dealers have been collecting vintage pieces all winter long, so there’s always lots to take in.

We arrived at 7:00am for early entry and made our way through the crowd. In addition to scoring lots of new (vintage) lamps for the Lamp Orphanage, we discovered a number of other fun finds.

Here are a few of my faves…

I was able to indulge my chair addiction with these iconic chrome pieces. I thought seriously about bringing some home to complete our dining set, but my man had to reel me in and remind me that we were there specifically on a lamp mission.

one of a kind spring show & sale – part two

I’m sharing my top 8 fave discoveries from the One of a Kind Spring Show & Sale, over two posts. Did you miss the first one? Check it out right here.

Let’s wrap things up today with my final 4 picks…

1. Avril Loreti

Avril’s work is clearly an expression of her own personality… Bright, energetic and fun. Her booth was definitely hard to miss. It was positively bursting with colour and pattern. I was drawn in by her geometric pillows & held captive by her playful tea towels. Don’t be surprised to see us collaborate in the future.

one of a kind spring show & sale – part one

The One of a Kind Spring Show & Sale wrapped up last weekend and I have to say that this year’s event was a completely new experience for me. Not only was I participating in the show as media, but also as an exhibitor.

While my own booth kept me pretty busy, I did have a chance to walk around and chat with many of the other exhibitors.

I’ll be sharing my top 8 fave discoveries from the show, over two posts.

Let’s kick things off today with my first 4 picks…

1. Evann Frisque

Evann Frisque one of a kind spring show & sale part one

Evann Frisque is a textile artist, who hand felts, draws, and silk-screens her own unique brand of original art. She adds unexpected details to each piece in the form of neon stitching, buttons, found materials, and even electrical components.

Shown here are her one of a kind journal covers that deliver a lot more personality than the average variety.

I had the pleasure of being placed next to Evann’s booth in the Rising Stars section. We had a lot of time to talk and get to know more about each other’s methods. Don’t be surprised to see us collaborate in the future.
