I really do hate to be the bearer of bad news but it’s mid-August and that means that it’s officially back-to-school season. When it comes to the cheapest and easiest way to perk up your home decor, paint always wins the argument. It was true years ago and certainly held true during our Decorating on a Budget live Twitter chat last week!
From your walls to flea market finds, a fresh coat of paint can create a world of difference. And Farrow & Ball took this to the next level. In a new book, they showcase 21 DIY projects that prove that paint is not only an affordable way to update your decor, but can also make a standout customized statement piece. Been craving getting crafty? You’re in luck because we’re giving away this book to one lucky reader! Read on to see how you can win.
I don’t know why but I have a hard time keeping my kitchen sink sparkling. Every time my mother visits, I can see her eying it warily, then casually tossing a cleaning tip my way. Part of the problem is time and the other part of the problem is tea bags, which always stain.

Spring 2014 is certainly bringing us showers (in Toronto, ON, at least), but did you know it also brings a delightful caffeinated surprise?
This season, Nespresso released two limited edition Colombian coffees. Featuring two very different blends from two opposite regions, the Colombian Terriors offers consumers a taste of the country’s Arabica variety. Cauca, from the southwest region, is described as fruity with winey aromas, complex and aromatic. While the Santander, from the northeast region, is more rounded and balanced, with notes of toasted bread and sweet caramel.
To accompany this launch, Swiss graphic designer Werner Jeker illustrated two limited edition espresso cups to represent the two terroirs. The cups even come in a gift box that transforms into a capsule dispenser for the Nespresso U machine. I love a multi-functional twist!
And, to make things even better, we’re giving it all away to one lucky winner! Read on to find out how you can win.
Yesterday I had the delicious pleasure of enjoying breakfast with Masterchef USA winner Christine Ha. Watching her on season three of Masterchef USA was addicting (much like her kale and mushroom chips and candied bacon), but I constantly wished I could taste her winning dishes. While the breakfast recipes we did get to try were simple in nature, the flavours sang.
Not only is Christine Ha, otherwise known as The Blind Cook, an inspiration when it comes to passion and hard work, but she invokes confidence in anyone who wants to cook. Her culinary adventures didn’t start from a young age like most mastered chefs. Instead, she began cooking in university out of pure necessity and admits every dish was not a success. Her skills and palette developed as, sadly, her sight diminished, eventually losing her vision entirely due to an autoimmune disease.
In her cookbook, Recipes from My Home Kitchen: Asian and American Comfort Food, Christine states, “Food, like love, is a basic human need” and that she really started to love cooking for friends and roommates, delighting in giving them a “food coma”. I believe it is her love for food and creating food out of love that makes her recipes special. After experiencing this firsthand I only wish to share this with others… And that is exactly what I’m going to do!
I’m giving away a copy of Christine’s cookbook to one lucky reader! Read on to find out how to enter.
