Crack the eggs for breakfast and, instead, bake some egg-shaped cookies! This non-stick pan bakes 12 cookies at a time, with six different Easter-themed designs for easy, edible treats you won’t want to hide.

crate and barrel opens in mississauga

Crate and Barrel threw open the doors of its third Canadian location to the public today, just in time for the holidays. I attended a preview of the new store last night and it’s everything you’d expect from the furniture and housewares retailer. The store is huge! It’s 24,000 square feet and it’s located just across the street from Square One in Mississauga. (Did you know that Crate and Barrel opened its first store in Chicago in 1962? I had no idea!) It’s wall-to-wall style in there – from accessories, kitchen gadgets, tableware and Christmas decorations to furniture, dishware, rugs and lamps. Check out some of my favourite finds:

I finally did it: a vignette inspired by my vintage Hardy Boys collection. icon wink turquoise delight on cityline

Seriously, though – turquoise is a really hot hue that’s popping up everywhere we look, as you’ll see in my segment from yesterday’s episode of CityLine. (Watch it HERE!)

perfect pairs – dining tables & chairs

My fave dining arrangement of the moment? Pairing a round, vaguely industrial table with Saarinen Tulip chairs. Far from matchy-matchy, this is more of a peanut butter-and-chocolate kind of combination: both yummy on their own, but absolutely scrumptious when some kitchen wizard decided to put them together. Spotted this vignette at Elte last week, and it kind of reaffirmed my passion for this particular pairing. Of course, the luxe lantern pendant suspended overhead doesn’t hurt. Lovely!

I mean, anyone could pair the Saarinen Tulip chair with the matching Saarinen Tulip table

…But it’s in challenging yourself to look beyond the overly matchy-matchy “I-bought-these-as-a-set” look that your own personality shines through; when you craft your very own custom combination of dining table and chairs.

Take this gorgeous eat-in kitchen shot from the latest slew of Crate and Barrel releases. No one would accuse the bentwood Thonet-style Vienna side chairs of “matching” the gorgeous new Carrara marble and steel/aluminum base French kitchen table, but they work so well together, as they both evoke that European bistro-casual feel.

Similarly, in one of my fave interiors in the past year of Style at Home, designer Peter Wilds of The Cross Decor & Design gave homeowners Amir & Laura Neyestani this gem of a dining room, in which he paired the aforementioned Saarinen Tulip table with ballroom chairs from Grange. An inspired combination! The white upholstery on the chair seats ensure a visual link to the table base that really pull these strange – but startlingly beautiful – bedfellows together.

window shopping: blue dining chairs

As my Style Statement on the last page of the hot-off-the-press May issue of Style at Home (our Colour special!), I chose an iconic Danish dining chair that’s been reimagined in a totally trendy colourway: a rich, cerulean blue. It didn’t strike me until afterwards that it’s actually rather rare to come across dining chairs in this hue. Sage greens, yellows and saturated reds, yes; but true-blues (I’m not counting those anemic pale-grey-blues) are only starting to rock the dining room. Let’s take a look at five of my fave options on the market…

I positively adore Camilla House’s bentwood-style bistro chair. In vintage French blue, the Camargue chair’s deliciously authentic looking cane seat and slightly distressed paint conspire to give it that instant heirloom appeal.

Joining the Crate and Barrel lineup this spring is the beechwood  Village side chair in this lovely Azzuro Blue option. Love the vertical slat back — relaxed country, without being corn-cob.

Venturing into style-for-less territory — which in this case, happens to border industrial chic — we’ve got IKEA’s Jules visitor chair; an absolute steal at only $50 a pop.

Pretty in PVC! Another fab find from Camilla House Imports — the Pop Louis chair has contemporary fun with a traditional frame.

And I know I said this bit of Window Shopping would only deal with rich, saturated blues, but Bungalow 5′s Chloe armchair in light blue lacquer was just too pretty to exclude… The chic Chinoiserie frame looks positively dreamy in that shade of blue.

sofa love from crate and barrel

cbazuresofa sofa love from crate and barrel

I just fell for the classic but updated look of this Azure sofa from Crate and Barrel. Tufting, curves — it’s got it all!

It’s shown above in Whitney Bran linen/rayon blend with self-welt detail but it’s also available in other colour options (a custom colour is shown below).

And, of course, it’s eco-friendly.

• the seat and back cushions are filled with soy-based polyfoam
• the cushions are wrapped in fibre made from clear and white plastic bottles
• the frame is made from hardwood that’s FSC or SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified

With these lines, it would look amazing in just about any room, modern or fresh traditional, and with hundreds of fabric options, you could really give it your own personality twist!

Available at: Crate and Barrel stores; for locations and to order online, visit www.crateandbarrel.ca

Price: from $2,199
