Eclectic style has been gaining momentum in recent years; and, much to my delight, it appears to be graduating in 2012 from style statement to full-on trend.

Out here in the Peg, the sky is hazy and the ground is dusted with snow. It’s the perfect day for cozying up indoors (never mind that it’s Monday) and a sumptuously decorated space, such as this one from Restoration Hardware, would suit me just fine!
My love for Missoni is well-documented on the pages of Style At Home – just take a look at September’s Style News Palette and my apartment as seen in the June issue and the proof is in the pudding. So you can imagine my delight when a hook-up through Target’s Minneapolis headquarters resulted in my mother and I being invited to the New York City launch party of the Missoni for Target collection on Wednesday night!
What do you think? Is wallpaper in the kitchen a do or a don’t?

After months of a packed schedule, overload of work and endless hours at my laptop blogging, designing and tweeting, I was beginning to get a little bug-eyed and blue. I love city life, but sometimes the go-go-go of it all gets to be too much. The Remedy? A delightful, albeit speedy, trip to my hometown – a small farming community in southern Manitoba. I had no real “plans” for my visit, other than to escape all the demands and pressures of the city. My vacay went exactly as, well, “planned”. I soaked up some rays, snagged a sweet deal at the local thrift shop, spent time with family and swung by my friend’s farm.
For as long as I’ve known my friend Virginia Janzen (which is almost a couple of decades now!), I’ve been gushing over her family’s farmhouse. Both Virginia and her mom Cindy have an effortless flair about them; and, the farmhouse’s simple, yet stylish decor is evidence of this. From it’s sweet perches (read: chaise and swinging bench) and splashes of red accents to it’s eclectic vignettes and abundance of blankets and pillows, the Janzen’s home is the quintessential prairie farmhouse.
Take a look at these lovely snap shots and you’ll see what I mean!
I’ll be posting photos of the farmhouse’s interior soon, so stay tuned for part 2!

Yesterday I had my bedroom painted and I was a little nervous about the colour – it was looking really white, when what I had chosen was a pale grey. But once all the coats were finished and it dried, it looked amazing! The colour, Pegasus (D30-1, Olympic Paints), is soft and refreshing and such a nice change from the dark colour I had before. I was also impressed with Olympic’s Colours of Inspiration line, which I used in my bathroom as well. The colour selection is lovely. I had a hard time making my choice out of the 1,200 colours in the palette but I’m thrilled with the final results. Even better, the paint is zero VOC and very low odour. I couldn’t smell the paint at all, which was fantastic. If you’re considering painting a room, you should check out these colours. Here’s how my paint job turned out:
Pegasus from Olympic Paints is a soft, feminine grey and the perfect colour to lighten and brighten my bedroom.
More photos to come as I decide on new accessories!
The other day I came across a box of discarded tarnished silverware in front of a neighbour’s house. I couldn’t resist picking out three little pieces to bring home to try and bring back to life.
The bucket was my favourite item - I love finding little pieces like this that will work as a vase. I think it adds much interest to an arrangement.
I cut some peonies from my garden and delivered it to my Mom.
The dark spots on the bucket are still showing, even after a lot of elbow grease but I think they add beautiful patina to my free, cardboard box find. Just always keep your eyes open for fun things like this, that will work as vases throughout your house. xo Lindsay

I finally got the call today: The missing piece of marble for the ledge in my shower is being installed as we speak! It’s only been two weeks since my bathroom renovation began (though it feels longer) and once that final piece is in, the renovation itself will be complete. Which means … I get to start choosing accessories to dress up my space!
To start, I’ve chosen these stoneware accessories with silver-plated trim from Canadian Tire.
Apothecary Tumbler, $12.99, canadiantire.ca
Apothecary soap dish, $12.99, canadiantire.ca
There’s a full line of matching products from this pretty Paris-inspired line, including a waste basket, toothbrush holder and lotion pump. I love the vintage hotel-chic flavour of these pieces and love the price points!”
What do you think? Good start?
Well, I was hoping to have more of an update on the state of my bathroom renovation but alas, the missing piece of marble is holding things up. But, I have made a decision on the sink situation.
Despite advice from readers like you, I opted for the glass vessel sink. And despite the fact that, as many of you pointed out, it’ll be trickier to keep this sink clean (versus the white porcelain option I’d been considering), I like it better and do hereby promise to keep it clean at all times!
I like the simplicity of it and its trueness to the origin of the vessel sink, which dates centuries back to China, when basins like this were used before indoor plumbing. This 16-inch vessel sink from Home Depot was just $69 and fits perfectly on the vanity in my small space. I can’t wait to show you all the final photos but it all depends on the custom cut piece of marble that’s needed for the shower ledge.
Until the marble arrives, I’m going to busy myself with shopping for the decorative accents!
At 2207 Queen Street East, in Toronto’s Beach neighbourhood is a little store that is actually two little stores. Here you will find Nesters, and Chatelet, sharing a storefront. It was only recently pointed out to me, that this little store, is indeed two. Should you visit, you will see why I was surprised – both retail stores carry very complementary items to one another.
On the “Nesters” side, I fell for the two pieces above. I’ve always been a fan of the French antique look and weathered wood mirrors.
Still on the Nesters side, I really loved the little vignettes you could shop from. I often come here to find little gifts for special occasions, as the price points for the gift items are quite reasonable.
On the Chatelet side, my one-year-old son, Oscar, selected this sweet little box to give to his grandmother for Mother’s Day.
