the incomparable zoe bradley

One of the things I love about my job is that I`m continually discovering people with indescribably clever talent. Design is such an art and all over the world, people are expressing themselves through various forms of this diverse art. From interior designers to furniture designers, there`s so much inspiration to help turn a simple house into a truly beautiful home. And then there are those artists who, in short, make the world a more beautiful place with their innovative creativity.

Zoe Bradley is a sculptural artist whose work combines sculpture, fashion and theatre. Her trademark is spectacular silhouettes and she`s designed pieces that have graced fashion runways and have appeared in window displays for some of the largest retailers and designers in the world, including Donna Karan, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Missoni. According to her website, Zoe “employs traditional tailoring techniques, but offers a twist from using the more conventional materials of fashion fabrics to her signature material luxury papers.”

The pieces are hard to describe — you have to see them for yourself. But the result of her ingenuity and talent is nothing short of breathtaking. Her creations are extraordinary and you can browse online for unique pieces of wall art. There`s a gorgeous floral canvas and a truly special chandelier as well as pretty decorations for weddings or other events. designer rugs

rug company designer rugsFor some, a rug is a functional item to warm the floors, cover a stain or delineate a space. For others it`s an afterthought; a nice-to-have-but-not-necessary addition to a room. For others still, a rug is a statement; a bold declaration about style and aesthetic. It might be the special piece that an entire room is designed around or a find so beautiful it`s a guaranteed conversation starter. And for these people, there`s The Rug Company. With handmade designs from world-renowned designers like Vivienne Westwood and Diane Von Furstenberg, these fabulous rugs take rugs to a whole new level. And they`re super-exclusive, too, with stores in a handful of cities worldwide: London, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Madrid, Moscow, Brussels, Copenhagen, Mexico, Oslo, Stockholm and Hong Kong. I can`t think of any better reason to hop on a plane to say, Barcelona, to check these beauties out.

beautiful iittala bowls

origo iitala beautiful iittala bowlsOK, yesterday, I had striped bowls on the brain. Strange, I know. But I was checking out this story on styleathome.com (Bargain beauty: Decorating for less) and I couldn`t stop admiring the striped bowls that caught my eye in the story`s photo. So, I started looking for stylish striped bowls to include in my blog. Alas, I couldn`t find the exact ones featured in the story but I did find another set of dishware that I quite liked. (You can check out that blog post here.)

But, thanks to the help of my colleague (Helen Racanelli, editor of canadianliving.com, who insisted I credit her for the elusive find) I was directed to the designer/manufacturer of the exact bowls I was marveling at. Alors, voila!

These cheerful and bold bowls by Scandinavian design company iittala can be found online at dinnerplates.com and the full product line ranges in price from $10 to $42. P.S. dinnerplates.com ships to Canada!

lovely lamp by designer Tord Boontje

lamp lovely lamp by designer Tord BoontjeI love this wide cylindrical pendant lamp by Dutch-born, London-based designer Tord Boontje. Known for intricate and intriguing graphic patterns, this colourful modern lamp is a combination of picture and pattern that`s delightful to look at. But what I love most is that when lit, this lamp jauntily projects the outer multi-coloured images onto the wall, creating a dancing display of shadows. A pretty addition to your home and a conversation piece, too — perfect!
