wasara’s disposable dinnerware

wasara wasaras disposable dinnerware

Disposable dinnerware? On an eco blog? Now you`ve seen it all, right?

Previously only available in Asia and Europe, Japan`s WASARA dinnerware is finally available in North America. Strong and sturdier than its paper counterparts (not to mention far more chic), WASARA`s wares are also biodegradable and completely compostable. (That is, if you have a compost heap.) Plus, they`re made with 100% tree-free sustainable materials: sugar cane fibre, bamboo and reed pulp. Order yours in advance of spring and be pret-a-picnic!

Price: Individual pieces, from $9 US (pack of 12 small plates). Sample pack (one each of all 14 pieces) $18 US.

new vera wang casual dinnerware

It’s the same pristine white bone china you’ve come to expect from Vera Wang’s dinnerware for Waterford Wedgwood, but the doyenne of dreamy wedding dresses (and equally dreamy wedding registry must-haves) has a little fun with a new casual collection. These three new designs mark a radical shift away from her stately classics, and each one crystallizes a contemporary trend — arabesque ribbon, botanicals and ikat.

Although I’m doubtful that core European-sourced staples like the gorgeous scalloped Queen Anne dinnerware from Pillivuyt (above) will get the red-ticket sale treatment, I’m excited to see what Williams-Sonoma has in store for this recession-friendly approach…

bold and beautiful

501311 02 bold and beautifulThe sign of a talented visual merchandiser is the ability to bring passers-by to a crashing halt. Kudos to those responsible for the Waterford Wedgwood display at William Ashley on Bloor Street for achieving just that: a spectacular spread of Wedgwood’s new Dynasty pattern that had me near-drooling. Destined for classic status, the bold and beautiful fine bone china boasts an in-your-face Chinese Dragon motif, Greek Key border and vivid palette. Almost (I said ALMOST) makes me want to trade in my Blue Willow…
