jaime hayon’s beautiful bathtub

My colleague Kimberley Seldon always says the only thing that she refuses to buy on behalf of her client is the bathtub. “That’s something they need to actually come to the showroom to test-drive,” she says.

On the other hand, if Kimberley were to deliver this to my doorstep, sans test-drive, I would be totally cool with that…

picture 1 jaime hayons beautiful bathtubWe’ve seen so many other features of the bathroom — vanities in particular — get the “furniture-look” treatment, it was only a matter of time before the tub itself got a mod makeover. The AQHayon Bathtub, designed by Jaime Hayon combines a standard acrylic tub with an MDF surround-structure that gives it the profile of a luxe & leggy cocktail table. I love how in this all-white bathroom, the white acrylic tub disappears, and you’re left with the graceful silhouette of the MDF… Absolutely stunning.

One of the most valuable tenets of antique-hunting that I’ve picked up? Look past the art — look at the frame! There are so many grand, baroque frames wasted on awful paint-by-numbers pieces (you know the type — creepy clowns, and possibly even more disturbing, those crying kids… Eek…) that are just dying for reinvention with a lick of pristine white paint. Or, if you’re not so DIY-inclined, you can get the look with Harry Allen’s gorgeous picture frame. Based on an antique frame Harry found in his brother’s closet, it’s recreated in glorious detail in trendy resin.
