No need to wrap these great giftables! Glammed-up in gorgeous etched green glass, Windsor Forest is the latest addition to Crabtree & Evelyn’s Festive Home Fragrance Collection. Inspired by the evergreens at Royal Windsor Great Park, bordering Windsor Castle, this set of three fragranced candles blends the fresh scent of Fraser fir, balsam and spruce – with a touch of English holly. At only $40, and with a burn time of 25 hours each, this is the perfect prezzie for the Anglophile in your life!

And speaking of British flavour… I’m loving C&E’s holiday hamper! A too-cute wicker basket that’s dying to be repurposed for picnics in the park, loaded with scrummy quintessentially English nibbles.

The artistes at Teatro Verde provided the floral arrangements for Crabtree & Evelyn’s holiday preview, where I took these snaps. They do such a fantastic job of putting fresh new spins on old holiday favourites. The arrangement on the cocktail table below is absolutely stunning…

father’s day gift ideas – part one

I take comfort in the certainties in life. All kittens are cute. In every Martha Stewart Halloween special, she’s bound to say the word “ghoulish” 500 times. And the fact that Father’s Day is hands-down, the most difficult gift-buying occasion in the calendar year.

Dads are just so hard to buy for. Everything my dad wants, he goes out and buys for himself, leaving my sister and I the unenviable task of divining what he doesn’t know he wants. (Does that even make sense?)

That’s why I’m bucking the trend of a lifetime, and am scoping out Father’s Day gift ideas a month in advance.

This actually caught my eye at the Real Canadian Superstore the other day…

PC Home medium-size grill cover, $40

Sure, it’s tightroping the fine line between kitsch and cute, but since it’s a barbeque cover, I’m gonna cut it some slack. Barbequeing is meant to be fun! It’s totally cottage-casual, and as my dad is no stranger to splitting firewood, he’ll get a kick out of the forestry motif.

I’ll consider it option #1. More to come. icon wink fathers day gift ideas part one

gift guide: canada blooms

canadablooms gift guide: canada bloomsTickets always make for a great gift, in my opinion. Buy someone a pair of tickets to an upcoming show, and more often than not, they’ll feel obliged to take you as a guest. Nice how that works out, isn’t it?

For only $16 a pop, available throughout December, you can order tickets to the Canada Blooms Flower and Garden Festival online — a thoughtful prezzie for any greenthumb on your gift-giving list. From Wednesday, March 18, to Sunday, March 22, the Metro Toronto Convention Centre becomes a haven for horticulture’s latest and greatest: a staggering six-acres of plantable projects and expert advice just in time for spring seed-selection. What a great stocking stuffer!

Ticket price: $16 each ($18 at the door)

gift guide: snow broom

twinter 21 gift guide: snow broomOh, Dad… Perennially, the hardest person to shop for at Christmas. Let’s think about the criteria involved: it’s got to be a tool, it’s got to be affordable (lest you get a lecture on how you shouldn’t have spent so much…), and if it makes an onerous job easier on the bod, that’s the icing on the cake. How about this fantastic multitasker from Garant? The innovative Twinter works double-time as a car snowbrush and an outdoor broom: a two-in-one timesaver that makes cleaning steps, around doors and balconies as well as car roofs and windshields a scratch-free cinch! If this winter’s anything like last year’s, I’d act soon on this one — it’s sure to sell out as quickly as sidewalk salt!

tie one on

56 tie one onOutside, the leaves may just be starting to turn, but here at the STYLE AT HOME offices, it’s already a full-blown winter wonderland as we prepare for our December spectacular. Which, of course, has me thinking about what I want for the holidays, and at the top of my wish list is this gorgeous narrow wool tie. If every girl has to have an Hermes scarf, then the same must be said of Hermes ties for guys… With kilt-edge fringing at both ends and the in-your-face tartan design, this is a necktie for a guy who is easily bored with neckties (namely, me). Covet!

Price: $190

Available at: Hermes, Montreal, 514-842-3387; Toronto, 416-968-8626; Vancouver, 604-681-9965.
