This mini book from Paper Source is my favorite Mother’s Day gift this year! A small journal filled with questions for mom to answer about her life. It’s a perfect way to get to know your mom better and a great keepsake for your own children or family members. I actually bought one for my mother-in-law for her birthday last year. I sent it to her and about two weeks later I received it back, completely filled with memories. It was so fun to look through and read more about her life and all of her stories… I really did learn more about her! It truly is a wonderful gift. Oh, and they have one for dad too!

It seems like you can’t turn around lately without bumping into a sock monkey — some cute, some…Not so much. (They’ve gotten a bit grotesque in some of their recent incarnations. I’ve seen faux-cigarette-smoking and drag queen varieties popping up at an alarming rate.) But these retro-fabulous fellas from Grassroots Environmental Products are a great alternative to some of the high-tech toys out there for the wee ones on your Christmas list. Stuffed with organic cotton, and covered with the finest 100% organic Egyptian cotton, this is a great green gift idea!
Price: $30 each
Available at: Grassroots Environmental Products, 888-633-5833; Toronto, 416-466-2841
Oh, Dad… Perennially, the hardest person to shop for at Christmas. Let’s think about the criteria involved: it’s got to be a tool, it’s got to be affordable (lest you get a lecture on how you shouldn’t have spent so much…), and if it makes an onerous job easier on the bod, that’s the icing on the cake. How about this fantastic multitasker from Garant? The innovative Twinter works double-time as a car snowbrush and an outdoor broom: a two-in-one timesaver that makes cleaning steps, around doors and balconies as well as car roofs and windshields a scratch-free cinch! If this winter’s anything like last year’s, I’d act soon on this one — it’s sure to sell out as quickly as sidewalk salt!
Garant’s Twinter Snow Broom
Price:Â From $20
Available at: Wal-Mart, The Home Depot, Home Hardware, RONA
Feeling the crunch? If your schedule’s anything like mine, the last thing you feel like doing after a long day at the office is venturing to the mall to fight the frenzied masses on the hunt for the perfect Christmas gift. The solution? Give the gift of style with a subscription to this very magazine! The gift subscription rate is ultra-affordable compared to the newsstand price (which makes it look like you actually spent a bundle!), and keeps giving throughout the year!
Price: $21.95/year

You just can`t go wrong with the gift of food. Well … okay, maybe that`s not true. I mean, I wouldn`t exactly be thrilled if someone showed up at my house with a cabbage casserole. They say it`s the thought that counts but I`d just be thinking, Wow. This person really doesn`t like me. So let me rephrase. You just can`t go wrong with the gift of baked goodies. And if you don`t have time to whip up some tasty treats yourself, then just leave it to the professionals. Frostineedibles.com is an online Canadian bakery that makes a vast assortment of cookies and other baked treats and offers overnight shipping to anywhere in Canada and the United States. So next time you`re looking for a hostess gift or housewarming present, a birthday gift or just something to satisfy your own sweet tooth, then consider Frostines Edibles. My favourite part is how they`re packaged — beautiful, re-useable boxes that come in a variety of colours and truly look like something special. Here at my office, we sampled the cookies and here`s what my colleagues had to say:
“Soft and crumbly. It dissolves in your mouth – delicious!”
Alaina Chapman
“These yummy cookies were truly delightful, melting away in my mouth. The butterscotch ripple was my fave — a simply sweet treat to cap off my lunch. If this is the way the cookie crumbles, I want more!”
Lauren McPhillips
“I had the chocolate brownie cookie … very chocolate brownie like! It was really rich and quite tasty, but somewhat dry. Would be perfect with a cold glass of milk. I imagine a serious chocolate lover would be very grateful to receive some of these to feed their craving.”
Daniela Payne
“This cookie makes a valiant effort to be all things to all people – it’s got shortbread, it has a modest filling, it has cranberries and who knows what else. That said, the holiday hubris pays off: In several sweetly satisfying bites, you get an essential taste of Christmases past, updated for the present. The verdict:Â A-. The minus is for leaving out the chocolate. Now, can I have another one?”
John Kuipers
Good to know: All flavours of Frostines Edibles cookies are nut- and peanut-free.

A friend recently sent me a gorgeous, personalized thank you card and as soon as I opened it, I knew I`d just discovered something for an upcoming blog entry. I`ve professed my love for pretty paper and stylish stationery many a time before but with so many fabulous options out there, it`s hard to choose just one to gush about. Today, I`m swooning over the gorgeous designs from Haute Note. This Vancouver-based company makes beautiful note cards and invitations and I love that you can personalize them. Simply pick a design and then personalize it with your name or a phrase like Thank you from Natalie. You can choose from six different fonts and if you can`t decide on just one design, you can mix and match and create a custom order. A packaged set of eight cards and nine envelopes (just in case, they say), costs $24. They`re perfect to have on hand for those occasions when you want to send something special and they also make a wonderful gift. Order online at hautenote.com.
Visit us at the Style at Home Show, Oct. 17 to 19, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto. Go to styleathomeshow.com for more information and to order tickets.
