centro garden opens its doors

This past Thursday, I was lucky enough to attend the VIP opening party for Centro Garden, a new living design and style store located at 437 Brant Street, in downtown Burlington, ON.

I really haven’t been this excited to see a business succeed, since starting my own. Centro’s tagline, “Live Outside Inside”, is not only based on the concept of literally blending indoor and outdoor living, but also, on the concept of bringing the best of the outside world, inside, to yours.

In their words, this means “placing the garden into the living room and the den on the patio for a more inspired and enriched lifestyle experience” and introducing items “made or found around the corner or around the world”.

It’s Top Five List time!

Summer has hit Pottery Barn showrooms across the country, and I had the opportunity to take a gander at the goods this morning. Here’s my scoop on their new summer essentials…

1. Natural Curiosity Melamine Collection

Well, this melamine is the rather delicious dinnerware version of the illustrations in that book. Pretty, upscale prints that add a touch of sophistication to a summer table setting.

2. Townsend Occasional Tables

Like so much of Pottery Barn’s summer offerings, this classy cocktail table (which retails for $499) leaves room for you to put your own personal stamp on it. The tabletop lifts, revealing little niches in which you can display seasonal smalls.

The Townsend also comes in this sleek console version ($499 as well), which I’d love have in the bedroom to display and store my ever-growing arsenal of neckties. How pretty would that look?townsend7 spring into summer at pottery barn

3. Starfish Duvet Cover & Sham

4. Crewel lampshades

Exquisite crewelwork elevates these shades into works of art. What a fantastically easy way to reinvent a nondescript lamp base! Would love to pair this with a bulky balustrade lamp base in a weathered, cerused wood finish…

5. Crab placecard holders

Stretching your decorating dollar has never been more important, and there are very few retailers that allow you to stretch that dollar quite like Bouclair. Bouclair’s spring look-book is a revelation for “Style For Less” hunters, like myself — light, bright and airy, and with a price tag that won’t break the bank. I’m absolutely in love with the ridiculously inexpensive glass table lamps flanking the bed. The clear glass obelisk bases are a total breath of fresh air, especially if — like me — you’re sick of those overdone lucite bubble base lamps, but still covet that look of breezy transparency. The overscale print on the duvet cover is so spring-fresh, and the symmetrically arranged mirrors are great cheap n’ chic statement pieces. Bring on Spring!

Sun mirrors, $100 each

Glass lamps, $50 each

Marigold duvet cover (double), $80

Cushions, from $17 each
