Anyone who knows me probably knows I’m easily distracted by gorgeous light fixtures. I have no idea how I managed to get from Paris to Rome considering how many amazing chandeliers, sconces and lamps stopped me dead in my tracks. And believe me, they’re everywhere!

As a lover of all things vintage-mod, I’ve always had a soft spot for the arc-style floor lamp. There’s just something so simple, yet glamourous about the lamp’s sweeping curved form. It’s incredibly classic and instantly commands attention in a room.
Whether taking up post next to its’ typical companion – the sofa – or put to less conventional, but equally fabulous, use illuminating a bed or dining table, the arc-style lamp is sure to heat up your decor!
Swap out all-too-expected bedside table lamps with one of these beauties, like I did in my Master Bedroom (shown above). Arc-style Floor Lamp, HomeSense – $129.99 CDN
A floor lamp arched over a petite table creates a cute n’ cozy breakfast nook worthy of the best Cup O’ Jo in town. Overarching Floor Lamp, West Elm, polished nickel base and arm, natural linen shade – $249.00 USD
Cut your art budget down by selecting a stylish arc-style lamp, which can double as sculpture! Meryl Floor Lamp, Crate and Barrel, grey marble and steel with satin nickel finish, cotton blend shade with diffuser – $349.95 CDN

As many of you who have been following my blog know, I recently completed a makeover on my condo. I took it from drab and outdated to fresh, chic and modern. (For those of you who haven’t seen the transformation, you can watch the video of it here.) I love every piece that designer Lisa Canning chose for my space, to give it the feeling of liveable luxury that I craved.
Alas – I broke a lamp. Sssh … don’t tell Lisa! I knocked it over one night and broke the whole thing. And now I’m on the hunt for a replacement pair of table lamps. If you’ve seen the video of my condo makeover, you’ll have a sense of my style and of the rest of my space. So here are four lamps I love, all from Layla Grayce.
Here’s what’s what:
1 Arteriors Abram White Crackle Double Gourd Porcelain Table Lamp
3 Jamie Young Lighting Lamp Base Lucky White Casted Metal
4 Bungalow 5 Cadiz Table Lamp Hand Painted Porcelain
I love all four – so I need help choosing. Here’s what my living room looks like:

Which of the four lamps above would you choose for this space? Leave a comment below with your vote! Plus: Your vote automatically enters you into our contest to win a $100 gift card from Layla Grayce. Good luck!
Contest closes April 5 at 12pm EST. Open to all residents of Canada, except those in Quebec. Not open to any Transcontinental Media employees, their families, or any other persons with whom they reside.
Update: Congratulations to our winner Leah. And thanks to everyone for entering!
Well, today is clearly all about Martha. Earlier, Margot wrote about her experience hobnobbing with the doyenne of decorating herself, and now I’m posting about installing the new light fixture in our kitchen, which is part of the Martha Stewart Living collection at The Home Depot. We put in the lovely piece below (only $129!) yesterday and I instantly fell in love. However, there are a few things you need to know before I continue:
1 We used this to replace the horrible fishbowl lights that builders insist on installing.
2 This is a fixture meant for kitchen islands.
3 We were not installing this above an island.
4 When originally installed, it was about 6’4″ from the floor. My other half, Mick, is 6’2″.
5 When I fall in love with something, I refuse to give up on it (much to Mick’s chagrin).

Upon seeing that it clearly hung too low (and was non-adjustable), Mick shrugged and suggested we get something else. But I was a woman in love with a light fixture found at an incredible price, and there’s just no arguing with that. So, Mick tinkered around with it, and somehow (his handiness is beyond me), he managed to adjust the non-adjustable.
Below, you’ll see the customized fixture and a lack of the horrid fishbowl light (our walls and ceiling are actually white, by the way — ignore the funky shadows). I love the way that even a simple change like a light fixture can begin to transform the room. We also got a chandelier from The Home Depot (you’ll be amazed at the fab decor finds you can pick up there!), which will be hanging over our soon-to-be dining table from West Elm.
What do you think?

Lauren
We’ve been in the house for about three and a half months now, but haven’t done too much except paint a room or two. Well, things are about to change up in here.
Mick and I (read: just me) have been on the search for backsplashes, light fixtures and dining furniture for our kitchen. While we’re still on the lookout for a great dining table, I think we’ve found the rest of the goodies for our kitchen. Below are two pictures of the kitchen as it sits today. From the builder, we upgraded the cabinets and opted for a granite countertop. We also spent a lot of upgrade money on the slate floors — we chose upgrades that would be most difficult for us to install ourselves later.

I used The Decorator’s Journal ($30) to gather all of my inspirations, product picks and room measurements. This journal is simply fab for anyone doing room makeovers on their home. You can organize per room, drawing floorplans and documenting all the measurements you need to know while shopping. Each room page includes a plastic sleeve so you can store loose paint chips, fabric samples, etc. I loved having this with me when I was out and about scouring for products for the kitchen.

Here is a collection of the items we found for our kitchen. I’m so happy with how it all comes together as a palette of grey, black and white, but with some pops of yellow — this palette is so me. Mick’s favourite colours are blue and orange — blue for the Cowboys and Maple Leafs, and orange for the Texas Longhorns. So, we’ll leave his colour choices out of this.
The best part? It’s all totally affordable. The curtain rod, black rug, marble backsplash and light fixtures are all from The Home Depot (love it), and the large mirror is from IKEA. The chairs are $100 each from West Elm, and the vintage spoons photo and silhouette plate are finds from Etsy. As for the KitchenAid mixer? That’s on my Christmas wishlist (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).
I’d love to hear what you guys think! Love or hate?
xo,
Lauren

You`ll recognize this iconic pendant from Style at Home`s High/Low column (May, 2010). The instantly recognizable Le Klint lamp by Poul Christiansen was designed in 1971 and re-interpreted by many companies thereafter (including IKEA — again, please see our May issue!). Now, Soji Modern has brought the Le Klint-style pendant outdoors and made it solar-powered. The 9″ x 9″ garden light gets about 5 hours of light from 6-7 hours of charging and makes a gorgeous garden addition.

I’ve coveted the Carousel Lantern from the rather fabulous Currey & Co. for a while now, and wasn’t at all surprised to see it make an appearance in the most recent issue of Elle Decor. Talk about “statement piece”!

Love the lollipop red finish, barely-there wrought iron frame and chinoiserie design influence – the perfect way to bring a foyer from drab to fab in a single purchase.
Less lollipop red, but equally stunning, are these three chic chandeliers from the Currey & Company catalogue that are vying for my affection…
Simplicity Chandelier, washed-wood finish

Tivoli Lantern, wrought iron

Axel Orb Chandelier, steel frame with Chestnut stained wood slats
