I can’t believe it’s not… indoor furniture

Yep. It’s another settee.

And yep, it’s designed for the outdoors. For reals.

Hampton Collection Settee (35.5″ x 78″ x 28.75″), $2,500

hamptonsofa I cant believe its not... indoor furnitureThe new Hampton Collection from inVU Drapery Co. represents the ultimate blurring of the distinction between indoors and out. With an elegant and traditional Indonesian teak wood frame (which can be oiled or left open to the natural elements – I’d be inclined to oil it, personally) and durable resin basketweave panels (don’t they just scream summer!), it’s absolutely the last thing you’d expect to find under the canopy of a pretty off-white canvas patio umbrella – which is exactly why I’m so infatuated with it.

Hampton Collection Chair (34.5″ x 30.75″ x 28.75″), $1, 200

hamptonchair I cant believe its not... indoor furnitureNaturally, the seat cushions on these beauties (a mock-up in these shots) will be in water, stain and UV-resistant fabric.

Outdoor living at its most elegant!

Let’s face it — we’re more inclined to be pulling the “staycation” this summer. Instead of flying to some far-flung, sun-drenched vacation resort, we’re going to invest in our own nest and hunker down in our own private havens.

But that doesn’t mean abandoning glamour, of course. Even in the depths of a gloomy economy, you can bring the look of a haute hotel terrace home with a few well-chosen bargains from HomeSense. Yes, ladies and gents — that vignette above is strictly style-for-less stuff, pulled together entirely from HomeSense!

Here’s the lowdown on those low-priced, high-style outdoor essentials:

100th post celebration: anthropologie catalogue loveliness

anthrotop 100th post celebration: anthropologie catalogue loveliness

It goes without saying that I love magazines. I’ve got a ton of subscriptions and can barely afford each one a cursory flip-through before the next issues arrives. That’s why I’m almost ashamed to admit that one of the monthlies that I look forward to most is… A catalogue.

Anthropologie‘s monthly mail-out catalogue is a showcase of truly atmospheric photography, and I love how each “issue” has an entirely different mood. February’s issue, for instance, was shot on location in the Slovakian countryside, and resulted in some moody, deliciously decrepit vignettes. The new papier machier Paperie Petting Zoo (the polychrome birdies in the image below) is an awesome new release — these birds are handcrafted from recycled cement bags!

Even if you aren’t on the Anthropologie mailing list, you can view an e-version of their catalogues in all their glory here!

Another reason to love Anthropologie? Even though it’s a U.S.-based company, online shopping’s easy for us north of the border, as the website provides up-to-date Canadian pricing for all products.

I love outdoor furniture that could work just as well indoors, and this super-luxe number fits the bill perfectly. Let’s play “spot the on-trend elements” with Art Shoppe’s stunning Balcony Sofa:

* Glossy finish (Love the lacquer look!)

* Fretwork frame (So fresh and summery!)

* Versatility (Imagine this in a front entryway as a place to perch when you’re taking off your shoes; OR pulled up to an extended dining table as an alternative seating arrangement; OR on the balcony…)

* Full weather resistance (It’s going to take a licking and keep on ticking!)

Doesn’t it make you want to host a garden party? I can definitely see myself curled up on this beauty with a pile of cucumber sandwiches…

It’s gloriously sunny, a balmy 14-degrees, and there isn’t a trace of a breeze… I think it’s safe to start thinking ahead to summer. At last.

What better way to begin than with some great-outdoors inspiration courtesy of Brian Gluckstein? His new Gluckstein Home Summer 2009 collection for Home Outfitters is a dreamy outdoor extension of the comfort and style we expect from his interiors, and is surprisingly affordable. The day bed above is one of my fave pieces.

Gluckstein also serves up some stylish smalls, including an incredibly detailed series of hose guides. (Just because it’s a garden doesn’t mean you can’t accessorize!)

And he hasn’t ignored us urban apartment/condo dwellers, either. We may not have the luxury of a garden, but we can still have some “green”! Simply plop this cute boxwood spiral in a pretty planter, and you’ve got a balcony worth taking breakfast on.
