Their name is just as quirky as their product. Amanda, the creative force behind Denture Thief, transfers her hand drawn illustrations onto fabric to create unique house wares. I think her pillows would be the perfect hit of colour and playfulness in a nursery or kids room. Stop by booth C-12 to talk with Amanda and learn more about what inspires her designs.

one of a kind christmas show & sale – part one

I attended the One Of A Kind Christmas Show & Sale yesterday, here in Toronto, and got the chance to chat with so many talented artisans and snap a few shots of their booths.

There are far too many products to share with you in one post, so I’ll be doing a series of four posts, in order to introduce you to my top 20 favourite artisans from the show. Let’s get started!

1. Nicole Tarasick

I was really excited to see Nicole’s booth because I’ve long admired her travel-inspired collection of pillows, bags & prints. Her exhibit didn’t disappoint! I love that she built walls and shelving from unfinished plywood and let her work speak for itself. Visit her at booth P-22 or stop by Style Garage, where you’ll find her wares accessorizing the showroom.

commonwealth cushions

It seems that every time I visit Etsy, I search the site for hours and before I know it, it’s 3pm on a Sunday and I’m still in my pj’s. Today I stumbled upon these fabulous cushion covers from Etsy seller HelkatDesign. I love the rugged embroidery and muted prints on burlap — perfect for a cottage or as a funky touch to a sofa in the TV room. There are tons of designs to choose from but the three below are my fave.

everything looks better in india

…It helps, of course, if “everything” is the latest and greatest from Anthropologie’s delish summer collection. But wouldn’t it be amazing to produce a photoshoot inside one of Jaipur’s incredibly ornate palaces? I mean check out those columns! And ooh, that intricate painted plaster! It’s a testament to Anthropologie’s wares that they actually manage to hold their own in such stunning surroundings.

Seriously, though – turquoise is a really hot hue that’s popping up everywhere we look, as you’ll see in my segment from yesterday’s episode of CityLine. (Watch it HERE!)

sneak peek at the one of a kind show

A busy long weekend ahead, for sure (glorious weather forecast, family wedding on Saturday, and helping my parents move for the first time in 30 years on Sunday! Sheesh!), but if you’re in Toronto, you might consider popping in to the One of a Kind Show. I took a sneak peek at the show yesterday – 450 vendors this time around! – and wanted to share some of my scouts with you here as an early Easter treat.

The real standouts of this show? Eco-chic cushions!

Amy Migicovsky of Rock My Soul crafts these brilliant, psychedelic brights right here in Toronto. At $50-$100 a pop, the silk-screened cushions are made from natural organic cotton, and deliver a startling punch of California cool. Definitely one of the most striking booth designs of the entire show.

ooak2 sneak peek at the one of a kind show“Fun, funky and bohemian” is how Amy describes her hippie chic style.

ooak3 sneak peek at the one of a kind showAlthough I’m not quite daring enough to go full-on flourescent at home, I do love Amy’s graphic Bamboo cushion at right (above).

I also had to say hi to Nathalie Butterfield and Terra Kushner of FLUF Design, whose eco-chic home textiles I’ve always admired for their earthy, grounded colourways and environmentally-conscientious design practices (image below). Lovely stuff! (They have my last feature on Fluf Design from the March 2010 issue of Style at Home hanging in their booth – thanks so much, ladies!)

I also met up with the lovely Jenna Greenberg of Hamilton’s Jenna Rose, an artisan who I’ve also had the privilege of featuring in Style at Home in the past. Her urban chic screen-printed cushions are absolutely charming (below)! The Townhouse print is so sweet.

Jenna’s also added these crazy-comfy throw blankets to her ever-expanding collection.

Ctrl+Alt+Del — not just a three key computer command anymore. The universal code for quitting a software program has long been used as tech-speak for any form of deletion (“I’m going to Ctrl+Alt+Del your number out of my phone!”), and now it’s making its way into your home decor.

These adorable cushion covers from Etsy seller Diffraction Fiber are made of ‘Eco Felt’ (100% recycled plastic bottles), yet are as soft as they are durable. With an envelope enclosure and machine-washability, what’s not to love? Reveal your inner geek while still maintaining the cool factor.

Price: $50 US for a set of 3 cushion covers
