If you’ve ever been on etsy.com, you must go now, but make sure you have a couple hours to spare because it’s easy to lose track of time on there. Etsy is a cyber flea market, offering a forum to buy and sell handmade goods across 150 countries. You’re pretty much guaranteed to find anything and everything you’re looking for – clothing, jewellery, stationery, beauty products, linens, bath products, furniture, and home décor.

For those who may be a little wary of online shopping or just love handmade goods, head to West Elm in Toronto’s Liberty Village this Saturday, June 4th, 2011 for the “WE Heart Handmade Art” event! Anabela Carneiro, owner of the Fieldguided Etsy shop and curator for this event, has gathered 14 other local Etsy designers for an afternoon of shopping, refreshments and tunes. This event celebrates Etsy’s mission to “buy, sell and live handmade art”, a credo West Elm has been supporting through these events, as well as their catalogue and website.

Spring is here at last! The warm weather has finally arrived and I’ve started my usual spring clean up and purge. It’s also got me itching to give my bland, white kitchen a much-needed boost of colour and life. I began my hunt for accent pieces this weekend and found the perfect stuff at West Elm. These vibrant accessories are such an easy and inexpensive way to infuse some colour into a neutral space.
I love the unique shapes and fruity colours. Next up—cook something fabulous and show them off!
When it comes to shopping, everyone has their weaknesses. Like the shoe-a-holic who doesn’t need another pair of shoes, but spots a gorgeous new pair of pumps, falls head over heels and buys them anyways. At the top of my list of weaknesses are pretty accent tables. I just love how their pint-sized forms offer big impact in small spaces.
Check out the pair of glossy white tables that command attention in my cozy living room. I just love telling the story of how me and my tables found each other. In fact, I am forcing myself right now not to tell you the story!
I recently came across new takes from West Elm on these pretty and practical side tables. Since I cannot purchase every table I fall in love with, I thought I would play matchmaker (it is almost Valentine’s Day after all) and share my favourites with you. I hope you love them as much as I do. Take a look…

So tell me, which table is your type? Leave a comment and let us know!

Porcelain salt and pepper shakers, $8 per pair; westelm.com

I don’t know what it is about these quirky little salt and pepper shakers, but I am in love. Little fruit tins have been recast in porcelain to add a nostalgic look to your tabletop. And at only $8 for the pair, how can you pass them up?
Last night we hosted a shopping event at West Elm in Toronto’s Liberty Village and it was a huge success! So many fabulous people came out for an evening of shopping, music, cocktails and eats {you guys went nuts for the frites!}.
If you happened to see a tall blonde dressed all in black, sneakily snapping pictures of people when they weren’t looking, well, that was me. I’m so glad I got to meet and chat with some of you, and it was great to speak face-to-face with people that I chat to on Twitter and Facebook.
Below are a few of the snaps I took during the event — can’t wait for the next one!

Senior design editor Margot Austin tidying up the living room space she created {she also gets my vote for best-dressed of the night!}

So beautiful -- a place setting on the wintry white tabletop that editor-in-chief Erin McLaughlin styled

The line-up that wrapped around the store -- we love you dedicated shoppers for waiting in that crazy queue!

Fab five -- managing editor Tamara Robbins-Griffith, senior design editor Margot Austin, design editor Christine Hanlon, editor-in-chief Erin McLaughlin and contributing design editor Samantha Pynn
Thanks again to all who came out and to the fantastic staff at West Elm for all their hard work. Hope to see you again soon!

Lauren
