The Christmas before last, a photographer friend gave me a stunning piece of handcrafted pottery from Ingersoll, Ontario-based artist Shane Norrie, whose work I immediately fell for. Since then, you’ve seen Shane’s work in the pages of STYLE AT HOME, and on-screen, with his appearance in Miss Samantha’s smash hit Pure Design on HGTV. There’s a tangible earthiness to Shane’s pieces, not to mention the fact that they’re absolutely fascinating on a textural level. Samantha’s even dubbed his pieces “heirlooms of the future”, and I agree wholeheartedly. Shane’s expanded his repertoire by venturing into mixed media painting, and his work is now available through Canvas Gallery in Toronto, which means there’s more Shane to share. Yay!

I was scouting for product online late last night — scouting in PJs is highly underrated, btw — and made one of those “Eureka!”-esque finds that was totally unrelated to what I was actually on the hunt for. I was on the website of Karl Johnson, an absolutely brilliant cut-paper artist who I’d actually interviewed for STYLE AT HOME not long ago — read the interview here! — and came across one of his prints that I knew I had to have. (For my own work-in-progress digs, that is — not for the STYLE AT HOME story I was working on… Oops!) It’s a totally clever “spot the Hitchcock movie icon”, and plays into several of my obsessions — black and white art, Hitchcock, and Johnson’s breathtaking silhouette artistry. What’s more, it’s art I can actually afford. Bonus!
