cool cubic switchplate

by Lauren
October 30th, 2009

007eb_fullSwitchplates can often make a room go from pretty to pretty fugly, so when I spot a cool one, I’m all over it like white on rice. I adore this funky cubic switchplate that adds a fun dimensional aspect to boring electrical outlets.

$8 US, Design Glut on Supermarkethq.com.

oral-b pulsonic contest!

by Lauren
April 8th, 2009

oral-bOne of the things I love about writing a blog is trying out new products and having the opportunity to share what I like about them. Want to know what I love even more? Being able to give those products away!

From now until the end of April, I’m giving away 3 Crest Oral-B “Power Your Smile” prize packs, which include the new Pulsonic electric toothbrush and other teeth cleaning goodies ($90 value per prize pack).

I’ve always been hesitant of electric toothbrushes because I find them to be quite rough on my sensitive teeth, but I am now a changed woman! I tried out the Pulsonic and not only did it have a ’sensitive’ speed, but it also left my teeth feeling like I just got them polished at the dentist.

Here  are some more neat features:

~ 27,000 gentle sonic vibrations per minute

~ features a 2-minute timer for recommended brushing time; 30 second intervals for each quadrant of your mouth

~ helps to whiten teeth in 2 weeks by getting rid of 94% of surface stains

Want to win one of these prize packs? All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below letting me know your favourite part of the Tech Style blog, whether it’s posts on pretty laptop cases, Tech-free Fridays, or giveaways like this one. I’ll pick the best 3 comments at the end of the month to determine the winners. Good luck!

*Contest closes April 30th, 2009. Open to all residents of Canada, except those in Quebec. Not open to any Transcontinental Media employees, their families, or any other persons with whom they reside.*

create your own digital floorplans

by Lauren
March 2nd, 2009

In the past couple of years, I’ve moved several times from apartment to apartment, and each time, I’m faced with the task of taking a printout of the floorplan and trying to arrange my furniture with hand-drawn replicas within the tiny borders (neither pretty nor accurate, might I add). As I start preparing to move into a larger space come May, I’ve also started hoping I can find an easier way to plan the layout of the space.

My wishes were not made in vain, because I found floorplanner.com, a fab website that allows you to digitally create your own floorplans. What’s the best part about the site? It’s free!

The site offers a ton of cool features, so here’s the gist: sign up for a free account and start building. Drop-down menus for room selection and objects make it easy to remember what needs to be considered for each space. Drag room objects onto the layout and size them to the scale of the room. Everything is virtually customizable and you can switch between 2D (shown above) and 3D to view. The options are endless. Having a big party in your backyard? The site has objects that let you plan for table arrangement and centrepieces, and garden objects that may obstruct views and groundspace.

With the free version, you can create up to one house, but there’s an upgrade available for $28 US that lets you build up to 5 houses. If you’re in the professional field, whether it be a designer or contractor, floorplanner.com has specialized accounts to cater to your business.

What’s not to love?
