Decorate with mismatched tiles

Either one-offs or collected as a group, vintage tiles evoke a refined sense of days gone by. Rare tiles in peak condition can be expensive, but we like the variation (and the price tag!) of single unmatched tiles. Find them at antiques sales or salvage yards, and select them according to a colour scheme, like blue and white, a favourite pattern or a unifying theme.

Display a variety of old tiles en masse as colourful candle holders. Or, create an unusual table arrangement by putting two antique tiles together as an alternative to placemats, using a third one as a coaster.
