Winter is still alive and well here in Toronto and the colder it gets, the more I'm dreaming of a sun-filled getaway. I'm not exactly a beach girl but give me a vibrant city that's sunny and warm and I'm happy! I just recently returned from Los Angeles, so this week, I'll be sharing ideas of great things to do, places to stay and restaurants to dine at in LA. A little virtual vacation in the dead of winter is always inspiring and hopefully motivates you to plan a mini break of your own! While in Los Angeles, I spent a few nights at the Andaz West Hollywood. It's situated on Sunset Boulevard and has the mellow vibe of a boutique property but the glamour of a Hollywood hotel. Let's take a closer look: The hotel's exterior The Andaz West Hollywood is on the legendary Sunset Strip. The hotel originally opened in 1963 as the Gene Autry Hotel and went through a few reincarnations before reopening in 2009 as the Andaz West Hollywood. With 14 floors and 239 rooms, the hotel's modern renovation was done by Janson Goldstein LLP, a New York architecture and design firm. The lobby The lobby is an open-concept space that feels more like a living room than a traditional hotel lobby. Guests are checked in at a modern kiosk and are invited to enjoy the complimentary tea and coffee served in the mornings and wine in the evenings. Rooms The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern but the star of the show is the view of Los Angeles, particularly stunning at night. My room had a small seating area with two chairs and a TV situated directly in front of the large floor-to-ceiling windows that offered up a spectacular vista of the sparkling city below. Restaurant and bar The hotel's restaurant and bar are a great place to sit and do some people watching. The hotel has, in past years, been home to many rock legends and on the Sunset Strip, you just never know who you'll see walking by so keep your eyes peeled. Rooftop sundeck Can you think of a better place to rest and relax than this rooftop sundeck? Sit back, order a cocktail and treat yourself to 360-degree views of the City of Angels. Spa Guests at the Andaz West Hollywood can enjoy an array of spa services either in the comfort of their room or outdoors on the rooftop, with views of West Hollywood. Have you ever been to Los Angeles?
