10 ways to add Tiffany Blue-inspired hues to your home

In love with Tiffany Blue? Then join a club of worldwide admirers. This forever-elegant shade is the loveliest robin’s egg blue, inspired by turquoise stones that were popular in the 1800s, according to Tiffany company lore. Not any similar blue, however, can truly be called Tiffany Blue. It’s a trademarked term and a custom colour made by Pantone (colour number PMS 1837) that’s technically not available to the public. That doesn’t mean it hasn’t informed lots of interior hues, be it in paint or wallpaper, accessories and furniture. Here are some beautiful items in shades of aqua and turquoise that evoke Tiffany Blue.

Tiffany Blue bedroom wall

Living inside a Tiffany box might be the height of Holly Golightly-style glamour for some, but a little too much for others. You can bring this robin’s egg blue shade into the bedroom by painting a headboard wall in this colour. Note that paint manufacturers aren’t likely to have a shade called Tiffany Blue (it’s a trademarked term), but most paint manufacturers can match any shade you bring to them, so be sure to save your gift boxes and bags if you want a close match.

Duvet cover

Sometimes just a splash of turquoise blue is best. This crisp white duvet cover is embroidered with a jewel-toned version of Tiffany Blue, and it can be monogrammed in the centre of the duvet as well. Though the design draws on the influence of Moorish tiles, it’s versatile enough to suit lots of decor styles. Liza Embroidered Duvet Cover and Shams, Pottery Barn, from $126.

Christmas decor

Tiffany Blue inspired a foyer decorated for Christmas in Style at Home editor-in-chief Erin McLaughlin’s Toronto home. Mixed with silver and restful neutrals, Tiffany Blue represents a fresh take on the usual Yuletide colour schemes, and doesn’t have to be represented literally. The paint chip card seen here is a soft take on the colour, and cardstock plays homage to the iconic blue. The Baroque Papers Ancathus 2704, farrow-ball.com. Carpet Noel in Bisque, carpetone.ca. Card stock michaels.com. Ornaments homesense.ca. Paint (from left) Purity SD022, Satin SD022, Pale Sky SD0006, beautitone.ca. Bag tiffany.ca.

Sweet little bud vases are often overlooked for their brawnier cousins, but they can make a bold impact on windowsills, mantels and tablescapes. This glass bud vase holds one or two blooms, but is just as perfect on its own. Glass Bud Vase in Teal, West Elm, $14.

If your tastes lean to bold, then you won’t hesitate to go for furniture that’s unapologetically full-blown aqua blue, like this swivel slipper chair. Picture frame

Black, silver and white picture frames are all very well and very neutral, but sometimes they’re just plain boring. These frames, in a Tiffany Blue-style aqua are the ideal foil for picture boredom. For a relatively low cost, you can reframe photos or art you already have, or perhaps finally get around to printing out your digital photos and mounting them in an affordable, colourful square frame with a mat that holds an 8 x 10 image. Square Aqua Hi-Gloss frame, CB2, $55.
