new-use tuesdays: dental floss

It ain't easy being the hostess with the mostest. In addition to delivering delicious, perfectly presented meals, you have to be the vision of poise and beauty. I don't know about you, but sometimes making a bowl of cereal can make me lose my cool (why is that box even in the pantry when all it contains is a bit of cereal dust?), and I'm not the type of girl who rolls of of bed all put together. For those of us who have to work at coming off cool, calm and collected when entertaining, I'm putting today's new-use spotlight on dental floss. Yes, you read that right! Even if you're not much of a flosser, be sure to keep the unflavoured stuff handy. It's got many more applications than you'd think. 1. Necklace repair: What's good for your pearly whites is good for your pearls. If your showpiece string of pearls breaks, don't panic. Just collect the fallen beads and feed them onto some sturdy floss. No one will be the wiser. 2. Twine stand-in: Forgot to pick up twine to truss the chicken? Most dental floss is sturdy enough to get the job done. 3. Knife substitute: Some soft foods, such as cheesecake and hardboiled eggs, can be effectively sliced using floss. Just hold it taught and press firmly downward. Do you have any other uses for this household staple? Leave a comment below.
