diy: painted ceramics

I have been looking for a fun, simple, DIY project (I get antsy if I don't craft every week or so!) and I recently came across some great hand painted ceramic crafts. There are a few different variations I've seen (ranging from ready to buy Etsy items to true DIY creations). Trying to figure out which design I like best to test my own skills at, but I think I've found my next craft. Check it out!

The above Window and Door tea cup (there is a door on the other side) is the original painted ceramic piece that caught my eye. I love a 'sketchy' look (which is probably why hand drafting was one of my favourite courses at design school). There are some people who can just make a sketch look flawless, and I think Erin from wandersketch has got this skill down pat. I'm tempted to try it out myself. However, not sure my hand will be steady enough for this design on my first go...which is why I'm leaning towards trying out the (simpler) design below from Glued to my Crafts.

Stacey, the crafter behind this blog, has great step by step instructions on how to paint your own ceramics and make them last! Check out her full post here.

Has anyone painted ceramic at home before? How'd it go?
