hotel spa style: four seasons toronto

In the sort of gloomy weather we've been having, it seems little can cheer a girl up. But, then again, little can spoil the bliss that comes from a great manicure. Recently, I had the pleasure of getting a Vinylux manicure at the Four Seasons Toronto spa. As awe-stricken as I was with my own nails (I usually keep them totally bare, so the trendy almond shape and funky teal nail art was pretty far out of my comfort zone), I couldn't stop oohing and aahing over the beautiful setting.   The serene decor is a study in restraint. The materials are clearly luxurious – the walls are clad in strié marble slabs and the floor is tiled in a matte grey natural stone – but the palette is strictly neutral and the lines very clean. Despite the modern pared-back aesthetic, a few flourishes here and there sing out (quietly, of course – sh!) to the delight of decor aficionados like myself. My favourite was this oversized shadowbox artwork. Part seashell, part grandma's china, part gold leaf, these little porcelain bits are so beautiful I nearly shrieked in delight upon seeing them (but didn't – shhh!). Here's a closeup. I've since been daydreaming about replicating the look. It can be done using shards of old china or perhaps white sea shells. What do you think? Got any great DIY ideas for getting this high-end look on a dime?
