yay or nay: open closet design

Here we go again. It may be cliche but, like every new year, I’m definitely feeling the need to purge my apartment. However, in an attempt to not overwhelm myself right off the bat, I’ve made a list of small sections of my apartment to tackle one-by-one. First up: the closet. In looking into de-cluttering tips and organizing solutions, I came across an interesting concept – open closet design. HomeSense called on designer Virginie Martocq for closet organizing tips, who says, “These days, the dream closet is not something that needs to be hidden behind closed doors.” The idea of exposing your wardrobe may seem daunting and impossible for the chaos of daily life, but it could also be a great way to force yourself to stay organized and clutter-free. When you’re colour-coding your clothes using pretty hangers and using baskets and organizers for specific needs, you realize just how much you do (and don’t!) need. It makes everything easily accessible and, in the end, could save time rummaging to find that lost blouse or purge again next season. And if you’re still not entirely comfortable with the concept, maybe keep just one door or drawer. Who knows, after some time you may end up removing it, too. Would you try open closets? {Photo courtesy of HomeSense}
