Jillian Harris' design inspiration

Jillian Harris might be most well known as the former star of ABC’s The Bachelorette and these days, she’s working her magic on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. But before she hit the Hollywood scene, Jillian was raised in Alberta, Canada where she no doubt developed her passion for design. Jillian brings a Canadian flair to her global design inspirations. Here’s a closer look at her sense of style as showcased in work she's done in her clients' homes and her own.

A cozy space
I didn’t have much time or budget for this project, but it was Ali and Roberto’s (from The Bachelorette) first home together so I knew it needed to be special. I wanted them to connect with this space and so we created a gallery wall with items and art that spoke to Ali and Roberto. The room was light and airy but the hounds tooth pillows added a punch of personality and whimsy, much like Ali and Roberto themselves. Harris-2.jpg
Jillian's Vancouver home
This was my Vancouver home. Again, It was a small space and I wanted to be able to connect with everything in this room. The gallery wall is a collection of all the art I have collected over the years. Juxtapositions of rough wood side tables, gold Moroccan pouf and burlap throw pillows are a reflection of who I am – little memories everywhere is how I love to design.

This was my Chicago home. I wanted to bring both Ed and I into this space without being too literal. That is where the ‘2’ throw pillow comes in and the antique baby blocks that spell ‘I love you’. This space had so much light and I wanted to keep it that way; light, crisp, airy with our personalities thrown in. The antique books were from Ed’s alma mater which he found while we were antiquing.

Decorating a child's bedroom
Olivia is 7 years old and it was time to get a more grown up room. Again I wanted it to be personal and bring her life into the room. This room was also done for under $350. I love gallery walls – it’s really a story of your life on one wall. Many of these pieces were salvaged or repurposed. I wanted the room to have colour, punch and personality but still be able to grow with Olivia.

Oh this bedroom was so small but I do miss it. I love the simple touches like the white deer shed on the wall juxtaposed with the feminine silk designers guild pillows. This is the best room to wake up in and sit in bed with a coffee and a book.
