Fall 2014 trend report

With a cool breeze in the crisp air and the warm sunny days getting a little bit shorter, it’s a clear indication that autumn has arrived. The perfect segue between our two seasonal extremes, fall is that special time that allows us to transition our homes from the open-window airiness of summer to the fireplace-crackling warmth of winter.

This season’s trends bring us back to simpler times – inspired by the homes of the settlers, 2014 homes get a modern update in copper and brass, faux furs, handmade rugs and reclaimed wood.

Industrial chic

The industrial look has been a designer favourite for the past few years, and this season is no different. Reclaimed wood contrasted against iron and galvanized metal make for a versatile trend that works best when paired with modern pieces. For a softer approach to industrial chic, opt for rusted metals to add a bit of warmth to the look, like in the console table above. Granger Console Table, Pottery Barn, $315.
