Front foyer

Pepper the spirit of the holidays throughout your home by decorating for Hanukkah in unexpected ways. Here, the Star of David creates a bold look on the staircase, greeting family and friends with a welcoming chag sameach right when they walk in the door. To get this look, use a paper punch or a homemade template to cut out stars from card stock in two different shades of blue (the traditional Hanukkah colour). Affix the stars to the risers using double-sided tape, alternating a dark blue row with the lighter shade of blue.

Fireplace mantel

Remember, Hanukkah is called the Festival of Lights, so don’t stop at just one menorah. Create a layered effect on your fireplace mantel by incorporating several menorahs, as well as candles of various heights. Add extra sparkle by nestling pillar candles in large glass vases filled with metallic flakes. Other reflective elements, from the mercury glass orbs to the bevelled mirror, lend shine.

Bedroom door

Kids will love finding gifts in these playful Star of David “pockets” hung on their bedroom doors (and you’ll love how they look, too!). Make eight pockets (one for each day of Hanukkah) by sewing together two star shapes cut out of felt in different shades of blue and leaving the tops of the stars open. Glue the backs of the star pockets to the ends of blue ribbons of various lengths and secure to the top of the door with tape.

Bookshelves

Bookshelves in a family room provide an easy, casual way to feature Hanukkah decorations. Here, glass vases and jars are filled with tiny wrapped presents, dreidels and gelt (chocolate coins) that the whole family can enjoy. Sticking with the traditional Hanukkah palette of blue and silver enhances the festive vibe.

Dining room sideboard

The sideboard in your dining room offers the perfect spot to create a welcoming holiday display. Incorporate an abundance of white florals in a range of blue vases for a lush, inviting look. A mix of smoky and clear glassware adds interest, while antique silver and vintage-look pieces like the tray and barware lend a sense of formality.
