easy holiday diy: light-up christmas tree art

By: Elaine Song

Christmas trees aren’t always cooperative in  small spaces, whether that space is a bachelor apartment or an empty stairwell. A fun and creative solution are these light-up installations that you can hang just about anywhere in your home. It’s so simple to make, it can be a fun craft project for the kids, too! Find out how to make them: All you need are mini string lights, a canvas, an X-Acto knife or nail and hammer, and a ruler. 1 On the backside of the canvas, measure the spacing where you’ll make a hole in the shape of a Christmas tree. 2 Using the X-Acto knife, carefully poke the knife through at each marked point, making an X. Or, placing the canvas over thick cardboard, use a nail and hammer to carefully punch the holes. 3 Starting at the peak of tree, push each light through each hole making your way to the bottom. Use different coloured canvases and lights to create your desired effect, plug in the lights and enjoy! What Christmas tree alternatives do you use?
