holiday hosting: wine tips

Have you checked out the latest Tastings column in the December issue of Style at Home? Wine expert Angela Aiello provides a quick lesson in hosting with wine, suggesting rules and tips to help you be the host with the most this holiday season.

Following the rules of etiquette at a dinner party can be fun and fancy, so I'd like to share five more tips for seemingly expert wine pouring. These might be handy at your next holiday party! 1. Don't fill the glass all the way. Although it's tempting, pour only 1/3 of the glass. For both red and white wine, hold the glass from the stem, not the bowl. 2. On the dinner table, the wine glasses are always set to the right of the water glasses. 3. Let it breath. Wine gets better when it comes in contact with oxygen, so try decanting your wine (both reds and whites) before serving. 4. While it's common to serve red wine at room temperature, did you know that the ideal serving temperature is much cooler than the average room? For the best enjoyment of your red, let it chill for at least half an hour before serving. 5. To avoid loads of bad luck, always make eye contact when toasting other diners around the table. ;) Cheers! p.s. How great are these wine wipes to remedy wine-stained lips and teeth?     For more expert tips, check out the fabulous December issue! Top Illustration, Red Wine Art Wine Anatomy Print by anek
