holiday entertaining essential: cake pedestals

By: Elaine Song
There’s something about the holiday season that makes me want to bake. Maybe it’s just the cold weather that makes the warm glowing oven particularly comforting, but who’s arguing, right? There’s nothing better than freshly baked goods, they’re a sweet treat and make my apartment smell divine. I plan to throw a little holiday party for some friends and have been collecting some entertaining essentials over the past few weeks in preparation. One essential I’ve never had is a cake pedestal. Everything looks so much more appealing on a cake stand, in my opinion. Cakes, cupcakes, cookies, and truffles – they’re barely on the stand long enough for one to admire. Even candles or floral arrangements make a beautiful display. Here’s a roundup of six options I came across during my shopping. The last one, however, is the one that came home with me. 1 Emma cake stand. potterybarn.com, $59.83. 2 Decor bon bon footed square cake stand. rosannainc.com, $90. 3 Beehive cake stand. westelm.com, $43.21. 4 Presidio silver plated pedestal stand. williams-sonoma.com, $165.59. 5 Cake pedestal with chalkboard rim. chapters.indigo.ca, $25. 6 Cake stand with dome. winners.ca, $34.99. Who can say no to some gold lettering and a combination pedestal and dome? Which one is your favourite?
