Flatware essentials

Flatware sets are an everyday essential that come at a myriad of price points and are available in a countless number of styles. For a budget-friendly option for daily meals, utensils made of stainless steel are the ideal choice. Easy to clean and store, stainless steel flatware will remain intact for years to come with very little effort. We've selected a few of our favourite styles as well as gathered the best tips to care for your flatware.

Cleaning tips
Stainless steel is simple to clean and is generally dishwasher safe. This makes it the perfect option for everyday use. Make sure not to overstuff your flatware when filling your dishwasher so they don't scratch one another and get damaged. You can also wash flatware by hand using warm water and soap and thoroughly drying each piece. While very resistant, stainless steel is sensitive to products like eggs and acidic foods and must therefore be cleaned as soon as possible after coming contact with those elements. Dishwasher soap made with lemon can have the same staining effect and should be avoided with all stainless steel.

The best way to get rid of stains on any stainless steel surface is to use baking soda. Mix a little water and baking soda to create a paste and gently rub your flatware using a soft cloth. Rinse and pat dry. To restore luster, you can use a stainless steel polish, and gently rub each utensil individually. Make sure never to soak flatware for a long period of time to avoid stains and damage.

Storing tips
The best way to store flatware is to divide it by type and place it in separate containers to avoid unnecessary scratching and rubbing. Lining containers with fabric will ensure extra care. Make sure flatware is thoroughly dry before putting it away.
