There's no question that preparing a Christmas feast requires an abundance of time and patience. If you're playing host to a large group, don't let your stress level get out of control. These easy steps will help you to keep entertaining pressure to a minimum, ensuring that Christmas dinner is fun and festive for all.
Potluck
Why not suggest that Christmas dinner is a no- pressure potluck? Divvy up the tasks by asking each guest to bring a dish.
Make ahead
Don't leave everything until the last minute. If possible, prepare as much food in advance as possible. Many baked goods and desserts can be made well ahead of time and frozen. Just don't forget to take your goodies out of the freezer with enough time to thaw.
Setting the table
Even a task like setting the table can eat up valuable time that you just might not have on Christmas Day. If possible, set the table the night before, or enlist the help of the kids to get the table ready before guests arrive.
Stick with what you know
Trying a new recipe or dish for the first time when you're hosting a big party is enough to make anyone sweat. If you want to try something new, give it a practice run beforehand, or simply stick with tried and true recipes that you can rely on.
Don't overdo it
Set realistic goals for yourself. Although it's wonderful to offer your guests five different dessert selections, chances are you won't have the time to prepare all of them. Choose two desserts that you know your guests will love – this will give them a choice, while at the same time easing the burden on yourself.
Stock the bar in advance
Make sure that all of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages you'll need are available and easily accessible, before guests arrive. Consider organizing all of your drink glasses in one place, where guests can easily find them and help themselves.
