Big, bold pattern and vibrant colours make a splash in this contemporary White Rock, B.C., home by Sarah Richardson Design. The grand prize in the VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation Millionaire Lottery, it's the fourth big-give-away house Sarah has designed. "I really love doing the lottery homes," she says. "It's a world of make-believe, like a show home. They end up being the most revealing of what I'm in sync with in design." For Sarah, that means a house that's comfy and fun for a family, and ideal for entertaining. It's one that coddles its owners -- an escape that's about ease, indulgence and glamour, too. The bonus: this is style for a good cause.

Kick-in-the-pants-purple walls add bold, bracing colour in the living room of this charity lottery home. Designer Sarah Richardson chose furniture with understated, tradtional lines as a backdrop for exciting elements like colour, pattern and texture.

Lovely, Sarah. You really are branching out bringing in that purple hit. It's exciting and will be a great colour to live with. How could you not smile going into that room?
I think Sarah went a little loud with colour this time....not typical of her creamy-serene-like palette....it's much more sophisticated and will stand the test of time. I hope Sarah isn't changing her style to ultra-modern wackiness....it just doesn't suit her...and besides, she's become famous because of her neutral quiet style...wouldn't want to see her go the other way.
I want a room just like this I love purple walls and furniture, I just have to print a copy of this and put it on my vision board
I love this room, I was just reading the newsletter and the picture caught my eye. How wonderful, clean and fresh Purple is my favour colour I just have to have this picture to put on my VISION BOARD
As a decorator, I love Sarah's enthusiasm and bold direction. It is always nice to venture outside of the box, even as a designer. It's fun to experiment and see where the road takes you, and I think Sarah captures it with style. By Sheryl on 2008 10 09

I applaud Sarah for branching out and going a little bit beyond her serene rooms that we are used to. It shows that no matter what your design style is it never hurts to show a little cheekiness and still be able to be very elegant and timeless. Shelley Bresett

I would love to know what that paint colour is, as I'm doing my living room and have grey furniture already... was thinking of just using purple as accent on cushions, etc., but daughter loves purple walls and it might work for us. Can you tell me what paint manufacturer/colour number you used?
I was wondering where the vanity/sink from the bathroom was purchased. It is exactly what we wanted to purchase for our new bathroom. And same question for the behind the sink tiles, where are they from? Thanks!
