After their third child came along, one Toronto couple decided to implement a plan they'd had for years: to pull up stakes and move to the country. "We wanted to be able to open the back door and just let the kids run," they say. To help them make their new King Township, Ont., home appear as if it had overlooked these rolling hills for many decades, they turned to the husband's father, an expert antiquer with a passion for period architecture. Inside, decorator and family friend Joanne Conrad helped keep the decor a harmonious balance of classic elegance and farmhouse chic.

"Many miles in the distance, you can just see the red roof of a barn;  I never get tired of looking for it. The view here is the best in the house." With lots of windows to let in the summer light, heated floors for comfort in winter and a ringside view of a vista that changes every season, the sun porch is an escape within an escape. The throw on the sofa is from JacKryn France.
