Bedroom
A: White! All white is back. Wallpaper on ceilings, oversized accessories, linens in muted tones. We’re seeing fewer patterns than the last few years. The bedroom has become a retreat once again.
Bathroom
This season, bathrooms are 70s- and 80s-inspired. We’re seeing the return of gold to the bathroom (led by fashion trends). Bathrooms are a little over the top, glam this year.
Kitchen
Colour in cabinets! The inside, I mean. Sleek on the outside, colour on the inside. Also, glass paneled backsplashes and recycled glass countertops.
Living room
Formal, formal, formal! This season is about the return of the formal entertaining space. Out with the TV (it's off to the den) and in with structured seating, elegant rugs and furniture arranged to promote conversation.
Q: What’s new this year for flooring?
A: Cork in new dark, marbled shades are huge. Reclaimed floors and white marble in the living room (no veins). Light bleached oak is also hot, but reclaimed is probably the most popular.
Q: How can people incorporate the season’s trends into their home?
A: Do it with a wink! By this I mean, just a touch. Change a pillow or bathroom towels or swap some of your art out. Don’t overdo a trend. Your home shouldn’t feel like a movie set or too cartoonish. I like to bring trends in through accessories (if on a budget). If you have money to spend, bring in a new rug (vintage Persian) or change your floors for a reclaimed floor. One of the best ways to bring a trend into your home is with "objet". Rearrange your bookshelves and display a few new objects and you can totally change a look. Also, if you don’t want to spend anything, pick a trend and rearrange your furniture to suit that style.
