Jackie provides simple suggestions for creating your most inviting table for guests:
Layering is the key to a great table. Layer various textures and materials while using only one or two colours as your accent colour.
Start with basic white dishes. Then add a rattan placemat, a wooden charger, a ceramic leaf dish and cloth napkins with glass napkin ring holders. The placemat and charger in a wooden brown, the leaf dish in a muted green and the cloth napkins in an orange tone create a lovely natural look.
Repeat the accent colour at least three times: In a layered dish, as part of the centrepiece and in the napkin or napkin ring.
Dos and don’ts for setting a fall table
DO keep it simple and elegant with layers, one or two accent colours and a cohesive theme.
DON’T clutter the table with too many items. Let guests enjoy the meal without worrying about knocking anything over.
DO leave enough space for each person at each place setting (a minimum of 24 inches) so guests feel comfortable.
DO keep centrepieces low and three-dimensional for al guests to enjoy.
