Instructions: Forming the bowl shape

1
Depending on the size of the bowl you want, blow up a large or small balloon.

2 Using a permanent marker, carefully draw a line around the balloon, width-wise at its middle.

3 Tear the newspaper into small strips (about 1/2" to 1" wide and 3" to 4" long).

4 Place the balloon tie-side down in a plastic container while you work. Using a foam brush and Mod Podge, apply the newspaper, strip by strip, covering the top half of the balloon up to the line. The more layers of newspaper you use, the thicker and more sturdy the bowl will be. Allow to dry completely.

Instructions: Painting the bowl

1
Pop the balloon and carefully peel it off the inside of the newly formed bowl.

2 Paint the bowl white (several coats of acrylic paint may be required for full coverage).

3 Following the package instructions, gold leaf the entire inside of the bowl, as we did with the small one, or leave it white, like we did with the large.

4 Embrace the irregular shapes and finishes of your bowls -- imperfections are always half the charm!
