How to create silhouette art
Lacking artwork on your walls? Add some history by creating silhouettes of your loved ones. This craft may date back to the late 18th century, but it still has a modern simplicity to it. Play around with colour and design to complement your home’s style. Follow the step-by-step instructions listed below.
• glue stick
• black adhesive paper or black paper
• white paper
• picture frame
1 Take a picture of the subject's profile, then print the photograph. The size of the image can be made smaller or larger simply by using a photocopy machine.
2 Using sharp scissors, carefully cut the profile out.
3 Trace the image on the backside of the paper (the black paper). Any sort of paper can be used but I suggest using an adhesive paper so there’s no need for glue.
4 Cut the profile out.
5 Determine the position of the silhouette on a sheet of white paper that fits into the picture frame and mark it lightly with a pencil.
6 Cover the backside of the silhouette with glue and affix it onto the white background paper. If using the adhesive paper then peel off the backing from the top of the silhouette as you press it onto the paper.
7 Insert image in frame and you're finished!
