Located in the bustling streets of Chicago's downtown core, you'll find an urban retreat in the boutique Dana Hotel and Spa. With an artful juxtaposition of modern, minimalist details and natural, earthy qualities, this hotel was recently named to Conde Nast Traveler’s 2009 Hot List. Just minutes away from the Magnificent Mile for designer shopping, and Chicago's fine dining and hipster clubs, this hotel is perfectly situated to give you a slice of the Chicago lifestyle in a short stay. Whether you relax at the sensuous spa, grab a bite at the hotel restaurant AjaxSteak, or chill at the rooftop lounge, the Dana Hotel helps solidify Chicago as one of America's design meccas.
The look
Designed by renowned Chicago architect Andre Landon from EDI Architecture, the concept for the rooms is quite simple -- comfortable, clean and contemporary in a high-performance building. Neutral shades offer a peaceful sanctuary and dark wood accents draw attention to fine detailing. An exposed concrete ceiling showcasing beams and rustic tiles adds to the loft aspect of the room. The headboards and nightstands were custom made from recycled wood materials and an automatic temperature system (to heat or cool the room only when you enter it) makes this a super-stylish eco-friendly building. Bathed in natural light from the floor to ceiling windows, the 216 open-concept rooms offer breathtaking views of Chicago's skyline, making the city part of the artwork.
The inspiration
Landon wanted to create a loft-like feeling in each room with full windows, sliding doors, comfortable furniture pieces and minimal accents. In doing so, guests have the ability to soak up the full Chicago vibe just by relaxing in the comfort of the hotel room. And by looking at Chicago's sleek and impressive skyline (arguably one of the coolest in America), you needn't much more inspiration.
