The hotel
Bridging “old” and “new” Vegas, the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel offers today's modern boutique hotel experience alongside trad over-the-top Vegas glam. With DJs by the pool (make that the 15-acre “water playground”) and a luxe onsite spa, the 3,600-room resort and casino – built in 1946 by mobster Bugsy Siegel – has been updated for a demographic that finds its fun in more places than just the card tables or dinner show. Don't forget to visit the flock of Chilean flamingos that live in the onsite wildlife habitat.
The look
Think mid-century-futurism meets 60s-kitsch meets post-Millennial-high-tech, and throw in a dose of sophisticated glam, and you've nailed the aesthetic of the hotel's 636 Go Rooms. Pairing over-the-top Vegas eccentricities (white vinyl tufted headboard, anyone?) with upscale touches like sophisticated white drapery along walls and windows, a soigné white-chocolate-pink palette and a super-luxe bathroom complete with combo mirror-slash-TV, the Flamingo proves that Old Vegas kitsch can marry New Vegas luxury, with style to spare. Of-the-moment perks like an iPod docking station, 42-inch flat screen TV and New Age-y alarm clock offering nature sounds to wake up to are thoughtful touches you'll want to bring home.
The inspiration
The resort's 60th anniversary inspired the quest for “edgy new guest rooms,” says hotel president, Don Marrandino. In homage to the Flamingo's roots, the rooms feature splashes of the hotel's signature flamingo pink, alongside luxe bath comforts and state-of-the-art tech toys. “We're moving forward to take the resort into the future,” says Marrandino.
