DIY plant support

Managing editor and resident crafter Catherine Therrien repurposes a ubiquitous wire basket into a plant support simply by turning it upside down and placing it on top of a potted plant. Here, the delicate foliage of a jasmine vine offers verdant interest to a space and, at the same time, lends it an industrial chic edge.

Indoor plants bring instant colour and texture to a room. And when you go with a climbing plant like this beautiful jasmine, it offers even more interest. But it does require some growing assistance. A clever – and stylish – way to create a trellis-type structure is to use a wire basket. Here are the two simple steps:

1 When the plant is fairly young, place a tall basket upside down over top of the pot.

2 Once the vines start to grow, feed them through the holes and enjoy your verdant sculpture.
