Twigs are bound in fascinating ways for many different reasons. Primitive baskets and temporary shelters are two examples of the types of twig assemblages that inspired these designs.
Collect assorted twigs of different colours, textures, lengths and thick- nesses. Pick just a few that you think look good together. Spread the bottom ends of the twigs to your desired tepee size, and then tightly bind the assemblage at its center with a coarse cord. Sand the bases of the twigs as needed, so the tepee sits flat and level.
If you wish, finish adorning your twig construction with interesting vines and dried grasses. You could even hang a name card from the twigs to mark your seating arrangements, and then let your guests take the natural candleholders home as a unique party favour.
Editor's note: Always use caution when displaying candles and never leave them unattended.
