Simple projects: Bird motifs

Spring must be in the air because we’re seeing birds on everything from bedsheets and linen to upholstery fabric and wallpaper. A symbol of renewal, hope and nature, these whimsical silhouettes are fast becoming a chic must-have in home decor. Here, our creative design editor Ann Marie Favot crafts simple bird projects to feather your own nest.

Instead of buying pre-set bird decals, which can be limited in size, shape and colour, Ann Marie decided to make her own, searching the Internet for line drawings of birds she liked, printing them out and and carefully tracing them onto adhesive vinyl decal paper. She then picked up a fallen branch from a nature walk and placed it on nails hammered into the wall. Finally, she adhered the bird decals to the wall as if they were perching on the branch.
