Bathroom cleaning checklist

Daily, weekly and seasonal cleaning tips.

Sparkling, gleaming, shining, bright -- your bathroom's sleek and reflective surfaces give it the potential to be the squeakiest clean and most beautiful room in the house. And since it's one of the smallest rooms in most homes as well, you have no excuse not to get yours in tip-top shape. So print off our bathroom-cleaning checklist, roll up your sleeves, and get out your cleaning supplies. You may find your bathroom so spotless that you decide to skip your next spa appointment and pamper yourself at home instead.

(Still, we understand that not everyone has the same standards of fastidiousness, so refer to our colour code, so you know what are essential cleaning, value-added cleaning, and the ultimate in bathroom perfection.)

Daily cleaning:
• Pick towels/dirty laundry off floor
• Wipe down vanity and faucet
• Hang rubber non-slip bath map to dry

• Spray daily shower cleaner in shower stall
• Scrub bathtub
• Sweep or vacuum
• Rinse residue off soap dispenser or dish

• Clean mirror

TIP: The more you do during the week, the less you'll have to do on cleaning day.

Weekly cleaning:
• Empty waste bin

• Scrub bathtub
• Clean shower stall glass or shower stall tile (and grout)

• Wipe ceiling
• Pour vinegar down drains to prevent clogs
• Refresh scent oil on potpourri or refill scented oil dispenser

TIP: Some people might like to space these chores through the week to minimize the work on cleaning day, but others might prefer to just get it all done in one Saturday afternoon session.

Monthly cleaning:
• Wash rubber non-slip bath mat
• Clean shower curtain rod
• Remove shower curtain liner and machine wash
• Wipe down towel rods and rings
• Wipe down room tile/wainscoting
• Dust light fixtures, window ledges, moulding, baseboards
• Clean window glass

Seasonal cleaning:
• Clean ceiling
• Change window coverings (if you use seasonal coverings)
• Vacuum heating/air conditioning/ventilation vent covers
• Detail grout with toothbrush
• Seal natural stone flooring (once per year)

TIP: Another way to refresh your bathroom for each season is to fluff it with light cosmetic changes like towels in a seasonal colour (fresh green in springtime, crisp white for the summer, cozy taupe or spice hues when it's cold out).
