In this stylish country makeover, four friends transform a small cramped bedroom into a spacious bathroom.

it didn’t take long for Mary-Anne Swire, Brenda Innes, Carol Panczyk and Nancy Evans—the owners of Maison Beaufort, this charming rental property in France—to see that the European idea of a bathroom didn't quite tally with their own.

Before and After
Faced with a tiny second-floor room with just a bidet and tub (the toilet and sink were down­stairs), the four friends quickly transformed a cramped bedroom into a luxurious bath. Now, French-influenced honey-toned paint coats the walls, while Canadian country accents in beadboard and double sinks call to mind the best of both worlds.

An unfitted farmhouse bureau provides fitting storage for the room, while keeping the look spare and clean. Double sinks cater to individual guests’ needs.

The cramped bedroom had one thing going for it—a big window with shutters. In its new incarnation, the window just accentuates the bright, airy space.
