editor's pick: flor carpet tiles

By: Morgan Lindsay
Jessica Waks and I popped into the FLOR showroom in Toronto's Yorkville neighbourhood this week to take a peek at the latest designs and patterns of their modular carpet tiles. Since opening this past fall, anyone looking for carpet options should definitely check out some of the fun they have going on in the showroom! One of the great benefits of FLOR is their ability to cut the square tiles in a myriad of ways. Tiles are sold by the square but can be cut up to four times in different patterns (angled, halved, quartered, etc.) for a very small additional cost. Having the different cut pieces lets you truly get creative and play with pattern. We fell in love with this unique carpet runner. FLOR has an endless selection of colours that can be mixed and matched or grouped together for different effects. Go bold with hot pink or more neutral with one of their 'shag' ivory tiles. At the back of the showroom they left space to mix & match and try out tiles side by side. Another great resource is their online FLORbuilder where you can play around and create your own carpet. And fun fact - FLOR also offers wall to wall carpeting, so keep it in consideration when looking for large scale floor coverings. FLOR offers a unique service called the  Possibility Studio. Create a custom carpet (like this stunning chevron design from the showroom) with one of their design experts, take it home to try out and return it (within a certain amount of time) if you are not 100% happy. For all you environmentally-conscious readers out there, it's good to know that FLOR recycles all of its returned carpet tiles, grinding the tiles back down to fibres and then recreating new tiles from the old. Check out the showroom at 162 Cumberland Street in Yorkville, Toronto, or online at www.flor.com. Either way it's a definite must-see! What type of tile design would YOU use in your home?
