editor's pick: smells like canada candles

By: Elaine Song
While we all bid winter a warm adieu (if you get my drift), there's one cold weather essential that I keep in my home year round - candles. During the biting cold, there's certainly nothing more cozy than a roaring fire. And on those short days, when night falls fast and steady, there's a calm comfort in the glow of candlelight dancing around my apartment. No matter what the weather may be, it's this sense of peace that keeps candles burning in my home constantly. With the warmer months just around the corner, I'm excited for beaches, hikes and campfires, which is probably why Smells Like Canada caught my eye. This Toronto company makes handmade premium soy wax candles with patriotic scents. Okay, so they're strategically named to represent places from the True North, but I'm a proud Canadian so I'm all for it.   From Calgary Rawhide to Fraser Valley Wood, to Hogtown Peameal to Cape Breton Clover, Natalie, owner of Smells Like Canada, tries to represent the entire country. So far she has 11 scents, but is always adding to this collection.   I was apparently the first brave soul to smell Toronto Smoke (I guess I'm adventurous like that) and, to my surprise, it was very pleasant! Smoky and slightly sweet, no hint of smog whatsoever! However, while Toronto will always have a place in my heart (and my home), I'd have to say my favourites were Muskoka Campfire and, of course, Up North S'Mores. Muskoka is filled with memories and good times, but I'm impressed with her take on campfire. While some similar products are too overwhelming with a musky scent, this candle is distinct, but subtle.
